The Salvation Army in Yuma is looking to hire a Caseworker position. The successful candidate for this position will have experience working with homeless, at-risk veterans, families and clients in crisis. This position is fulltime and temporary.

The Caseworker will purchase, pick up food from food banks & maintain a food inventory for the Social Service and Feeding programs. This position will answer incoming calls and route to appropriate person, update and maintain a service and referral information list of community partners for services. This person will conduct initial assessment to determine client needs and assist with Coordinated Entry interviews. The Caseworker position will work as a bridge between social service programs and Corps programs. Other duties will include tracking, analyzing and inputting data relevant for reporting and engaging with community partners to maximize partnerships and resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree in a Human Services related discipline. Minimum Two years of direct case management or experience may be substituted for degree requirements.
  • Experience working with clients in crisis and the strong ability to effectively utilize stabilization techniques that include trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and de-escalation techniques.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Experience working with homeless, at-risk veterans, and families preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the cycles that affect at-risk individuals/families and those experiencing homelessness.
  • Knowledge of community resources, particularly housing for low-income individuals, available in the Yuma County service area.
  • Excellent knowledge of and ability to use current Microsoft software computer programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher, as well as e-mail, Adobe Acrobat and the internet
  • Excellent interpersonal, telephone and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse group of consumers, staff, and community partners.
  • Ability to be professional and courteous at all times
  • Excellent detail, organization, and file management skills
  • Demonstrated dependability, maturity, and initiative; must be able to maintain program/guest/agency confidentiality and treat everyone with dignity and respect. Ability to work alone and as a part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain a self-motivated and self-directed schedule, address multiple projects in a timely manner and take projects from beginning through completion
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances
  • Knowledge of the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS)/Wellsky.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license and pass a motor vehicle record check.
  • Must successfully pass Defensive Driving courses provided by The Salvation Army
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a criminal background check.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms on a continuous basis. Ability to work in extremely hot summer weather and moderately cold temps in the winter. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to focus. The employee must have the ability to operate a telephone, desktop or laptop computer, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.
