Business Manager

Overview:

Mesquite Generation specializes in the management and optimization of power generation facilities, supporting the ERCOT market. Current facilities include two natural gas plants and one coal fired power plant and one coal mine.

The Business Manager is responsible for the accounting functions for the Mesquite Generation facilities including timely completion of general accounting, budgeting, analysis, and support of daily operations at the facilities through interaction with operations, maintenance, purchasing and corporate finance and accounting. This position will report to the General Manager and can be based in Bremond, Texas, or Bastrop, Texas and travel requirement is 25%.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the General Manager with every aspect of the business, including ownership of the annual and five-year rolling Opex and Capex budgets, evaluating cost synergies across the fleet and plant improvement opportunities, and assisting in contract review and approval.
  • Establish fleet bonus metrics with a team of key stakeholders, organize and prepare quarterly operational plant presentations to plant management staff and senior leadership, and analyze business opportunities to maximize value to the sponsor
  • Manages and responsible for the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including preparation of journal entries, P&L review, and balance sheet account reconciliations/analysis
  • Responsible for the annual budget process and ensures overall integrity of facility budgets
  • Interacts will management within the Mesquite Generation fleet on developing goals and objectives; assess overall company performance against objectives; performs detailed analysis as needed by management
  • Directly supervise the work of a Senior Accountant and provide feedback and counsel to improve efficiency and effectiveness; indirectly supervise the facility back-office teams including procurement, accounts payable, and inventory
  • Liaise between the corporate legal department and vendor/supplier legal teams with regards to contract review

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Experienced utilizing accounting data within an ERP system, extracting and formatting ERP data exports; NetSuite ERP knowledge is a plus.
  • 10 years of accounting / business management experience required
  • Demonstrate intermediate to advanced skill level in Microsoft Office; specifically Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Solid organizational skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $130,000.00 per year
