Operate school bus or other vehicles in a safe, efficient and orderly transportation of students and other authorized personnel to and from schools or other designated location as assigned to meet the needs of the
district.
Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities
1. Operate bus and all related equipment in a safe and efficient manner, obeying all traffic laws in
accordance with the policies and procedures of the department.
2. Report involvement in any accident/incident, job related injury, or passenger injury to
immediate supervisor within required timeline. Complete required reports.
3. Maintain bus, perform pre-trip inspections and report mechanical problems, damage to bus (interior
and exterior).
4. Drive assigned bus routes and extracurricular activity routes as designated.
5. Must be available to work AM and PM school routes, field trips, and other assignments as directed by
the Transportation Department.
6. Keep assigned bus clean and fueled.
7. Assist students with the load/unload process following prescribed policies and procedures.
8. Supervise behavior of children while on the bus applying effective student management techniques
and report misconduct to appropriate administrator/supervisor.
9. Instruct students on safe riding rules and responsibilities as riders including emergency busevacuation.
10. Establish and maintain good rapport with students, parents, school personnel and co-workers.
11. Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, vehicle and all related equipment in accordance with
the pre-trip requirement.
12. Report conditions to supervisor that impact your route.
13. Assist with securing appropriate child safety restraintsystems.
14. Attend and complete required training.
15. Maintain certification as Texas Bus Driver by the Texas Education Agency
16. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and federal policies, laws and procedures including
daily attendance, punctuality and confidentiality.
17. Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other required documents applicable to position.
18. Ability to demonstrate the following core values: integrity, high expectations, commitment,

19. Performs other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected for this position.
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or regional accrediting agency) OR valid Texas Class "B" or "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
Valid Texas Class "B" or "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with required endorsements for school bus driver OR class "C" driver's license. Employee hired with "C" driver's license must obtain the class "B" CDL license with all required endorsements within 60 calendar days of employment
Safe driving record verified by Texas Department of Public Safety (meets and maintains liability coverage eligibility)
Must reside in the state of Texas
Must obtain School Bus Driver Certification (Texas Department of Public Safety) within 90 days calendar days of employment
Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee(approximately $50.00) paid by candidate Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
At least 21 years of age
Ability to meet alcohol and controlled substance testing requirements set forth by Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991
Ability to pass annual medical examination per Department of Transportation (DOT)regulations
Ability to read, write and communicate effectively including performing basic mathematical skills
as related to interpreting map written route procedures and completing reports
Ability to manage student behaviors
Working Conditions
Work Environment:
Vehicles and related equipment: school bus, seat belts, shoulder harnesses, car seats, safety equipment (flares, reflective signs) and fire extinguisher; Special needs adaptive equipment: wheelchair, wheelchair lifts, wheelchair restraints, automatic lift equipment, ramps, locks; Communication equipment: radio communication equipment and cellular phone
Exposure to: temperature extremes (hot, cold and humidity), noise, low or intense illumination, vibration, biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc), chemical hazards (asbestos, fumes, vapors, gases, dust, smoke, etc), and prolonged exposure to sunlight;
Work outside, around moving objects or vehicles, around machinery with moving parts, on slippery surfaces, on uneven surfaces, and alone, work prolonged or irregular hours,
Unusual fatigue factors (early/late shifts)
Physical Demands/Requirements:
Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions/deadlines and prolonged
or irregular hours; Frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing (stairs or ramps), stooping, kneeling,
crouching, pulling, pushing, reaching repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual
acuity, distinguishingcolors, lifting, carrying, driving school bus and assigned travel.
May be required under specific circumstances to provide physical restraint of students in danger of
causing harm to themselves or others; Frequent districtwide and occasional statewide travel.
