Terms of Employment:


12 months/ 234 days per year. Compensation is at Auxiliary Pay Plan AUX8 on the EISD Compensation Plan. Entry level rate of pay is $27.94/hour with additional consideration based upon directly related experience.


Primary Purpose:


Responsible for supervising and coordinating the Building Trades department in maintaining a safe, clean and attractive facility. Organize and direct maintenance and repair services for all district facilities. Maintain all facilities in a condition of operating excellence so that they may be fully utilized, always.


Qualifications:


Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency)
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Supervisory skills, organizational skills and effective oral and written communication skills are required in the planning, organizing, motivating, and coaching of a team or multiple teams.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate multiple tasks
  • General knowledge of other crafts used in building repair and maintenance
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics

Experience:

  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in related field
  • Supervisory or leadership experience or training is preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:


Facilities Maintenance and Repair

  • Assign priority to maintenance work orders and process them.
  • Estimate cost of repair projects including labor, materials, and other related costs.
  • Assign all repairs to craft personnel and oversee completion.
  • Initiate contract repair when work cannot be performed by district staff.
  • Perform repairs and assist skilled workers to complete repairs as needed.
  • Work cooperatively with principals and facilities managers to schedule and complete repair/inspection.
  • Inspect all district buildings and facilities and initiate repairs as needed.
  • Conduct on-site inspection of repair projects.
  • Monitor and inspect contract work.
  • Work irregular hours and respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed.
  • Willing to be on-call in case of an emergency.

Safety

  • Provide training and orientation to all skilled workers in safety procedures and proper use of tools and equipment.
  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

Inventory and Equipment

  • Prepare, implement, and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for maintenance and repair of tools and equipment.
  • Order tools, equipment, and supplies and maintain accurate records.
  • Recommend replacement of existing equipment.
  • Conduct annual inventory of physical equipment and supplies.

Other

  • Assist in the preparation of department budget.
  • Assist in recruiting, screening, selection, training, and evaluation of maintenance employees.
  • Maintain accurate information for payroll reporting (timecards, tardiness, and absenteeism).
  • Attendance at work is an essential job function.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • The Building Trades Foreman provides supervision of the work of full-time Building Trades staff, temporary employees, and student workers

Equipment Used:

  • Hand and power tools, measuring devices, propane torch, forklift, trencher, backhoe. Light truck or van.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:


Frequent walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching, heavy lifting and carrying. Ability to operate hand, power, and bench tools. Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions; outside and inside; on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; on ladders, and scaffolding; and around machinery with moving parts. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, and excessive noises. Frequent districtwide travel: occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
