Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8a-4:30p

Position Summary: The Billing Clerk processes patient accounts, billing insurance companies, Government agencies, patients, and responsible parties, securing and providing information and resolving discrepancies regarding accounts. The billing clerk will be responsible for billing for our PCA and Private Duty Extended Care programs. The billing clerk is responsible for ensuring billing is done timely.

Responsibilities:

· Verify the accurate date on billings, (i.e. FC, Payer Plan, and Guarantor) and make corrections in the computer system and on the billing form as needed.

· Stays up to date on all billing issues for all payors.

· Does all primary electronic billing-download, edit, and transmit timely and efficiently.

· Files primary hardcopy claims timely and in an organized manner.

· Completes weekly reports on un-transmitted claims.

· Forward to department or medical records request for covered diagnosis.

· Checks on reimbursement rates as requested by departments.

· Assist co-works/public with billing and/or adjustment questions in a professional and timely manner.

· Ensures compliance with business office and hospital policies.

· Answers questions pertaining to billings and insurance coverage in a courteous and professional manner.

· Completes bill selection error report daily for clean claims to drop from Med/Host and/or any other applicable program.

· In a professional manner answers telephone/email/fax/in-person inquiries timely and respond timely.

· Demonstrates teamwork, and promotes teamwork within the department and hospital.

· Any other duties assigned as needed to help drive our Mission and abide by our organization’s values.

· Complete all required education, competencies, and/or training as assigned by the deadline

· Regularly attends work as scheduled and on time, regularly attends department meetings

· Billing experience and/or training required or ability to retain and learn in a timely and effective manner by on-the-job training.

· Ability to react professionally to irate or abusive individuals

· Ability to perceive unfavorable conditions and have the capacity to identify and initiate alternatives to circumvent such situations.

· Effective computer skills; utilize work processing, integrated database, and understanding of mathematical calculations and billing/medical terminology.

· Ability to use office machines copiers, faxes, scanners, and telephone systems.

· Teamwork-oriented skills cooperating well with other members of the team.

· Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience:

· Minimum of two years of medical office experience preferred.

· One-year billing experience to include ICD-10 and E/M coding required.

· E/M certification and Collection experience a plus.

· Experience with the following billing software programs: Healthcare First, Carevoyant, Clear Care, Wellsky, Med Host.

· Good communication and organizational skills are required.

· Must be able to follow directions and perform work according to department standards when no directions are given.
