Bernalillo Buzz Non-profit Network Coordinator Job at AmeriCorps
Bernalillo Community Museum was started by cultural leaders to leverage the area’s remarkable history in creative planning for the future. We build and host events and exhibits to prompt conversations about policy-relevant issues. We are located north of Albuquerque, New Mexico, in a town that has organized Matachines dances in early August for 328 years. Our town is neighbor to several sovereign tribal communities who sustain many dance traditions themselves. VISTA members who join the Bernalillo Buzz project will use museum tools such as exhibit development, pop-up museum activities, and networking with area nonprofits, to align Bernalillo Community Museum’s workforce development efforts with local interests and needs. People who would do well in this position are excited about nuevomexicano and Native community engagement. Successful members will test museum tools to gather and disseminate information about the greater Bernalillo area. In partnership with neighbors and local organizations, VISTA members will design and test Citizen Labs to identify solutions to pressing area problems. Both Citizen Labs and museum tools are seldom used in public settings so this is an exciting opportunity! VISTA members will meet remarkable community leaders and join forces with remarkable organizations to research and propose locally relevant poverty alleviation strategies. VISTA members will also bring neighbors into the work of the museum so it can more fully embody its mission as a community organization. The first year of our project begins June, 2022 and ends June, 2023. Member Duties : The VISTA member will facilitate meetings with staff at potential partner organizations to get to know them and their work and foster a collaborative environment and hear regular reports from partner staff. They will disseminate information about partner organization activities and services in exhibit kiosks and gather community trend data to include on exhibit kiosks as well. This VISTA Member will research and develop a locally relevant Citizen Lab program in collaboration with partner organizations and propose improvements. This VISTA member will also identify common goals among partner organizations, flesh out possible collaborative projects, and contribute grant writing in support of their planning and implementation.
