POSITION TITLE: Teller

REPORTS TO: Teller Supervisor

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

SCOPE:

Under the direction of the Head Teller, the Teller is responsible for directly servicing customers with the paying and receiving functions of the bank. This will include taking deposits, withdrawals, and transfers for customers. Additionally, the Teller may provide other services, such as selling access cards, money orders, cashing bonds and the like.

The Teller has primary responsibility for providing excellent customer service to bank customers who require teller services. The Teller will refer customers to other bank departments as appropriate for additional services.

The Teller will also be responsible for balancing the cash, staying within drawer limits, understanding related compliance regulations related to teller services.

The Teller will complete assigned training.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Customer Service: 55%

  • Perform paying and receiving functions for customers. This will include taking deposits, withdrawals, and transfers from customers. Additionally, the Teller may sell access cards, money orders and help customers with additional related services.
  • Understand and comply with the related laws and compliance regulations that pertain to teller duties. Examples include bank secrecy act, privacy, and funds availability policy.
  • Provide a high level of customer service. This includes understanding customer needs, as well as understanding the bank products offered.
  • Support customers with maintenance questions concerning their accounts. This will include address changes, check orders and the like.

Sales: 10%

  • This position will know other products the bank offers. In that capacity, this person will refer customers to the appropriate department in the bank for service. This may include loans, trust, private banking and the like.

Cash Handling: 30%

  • Ensure that the assigned cash balances on a daily basis and is kept secure at all times.
  • Must keep cash drawer within assigned drawer limits.

Other: 5%

  • Provide back-up support by assisting customers with opening accounts and managing account requests, as needed.
  • As part of the overall team of bank employees, this position may be requested to assist in the support of other bank activities.

EDUCATION AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prefer a high school degree or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years experience in a banking or cash handling position.
  • This job requires skills needed in a typical office environment. This includes computer skills, communication skills, as well as utilization of office equipment.
  • Must have the dexterity to count money.
