Job Description

Avionics Engineer

The Avionics Engineer assists in sourcing and tuning flight computers, enhancing cybersecurity,
and diagnosing and repairing electrical systems on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

This is an entry-level position on the ground floor of a fast-growing Unmanned Aerial System
(UAS) company, helping shape the future of an industry-leading family of unmanned aerial
vehicles.

Reports to: Director, R&D Work Environment: Office
Supervises: None Hours of Operation: 8:30am-5:30pm, M-F.
Location: Grand Forks, ND This position occasionally requires long hours
Travel: Moderate and weekend availability.

Job Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities of the Avionics Engineer include:


Duties and Responsibilities 

Identifies alternatives for flight computers and implements evaluation of them, providing

recommendations on which will best meet customer operating and security requirements. 
Assists setting flight computer parameters for optimal flight. 
Prepares cybersecurity plan and implements activities to achieve evolving cybersecurity

requirements. 
Performs functional checks on existing and newly installed aircraft electrical systems and

equipment 
Assembles and adjusts electronic equipment on our UAVs, including for integration of

various payloads. 
Operates test equipment to locate, diagnose, and repair defective parts and performs

routine inspections on systems and equipment. 
Other duties as assigned or required.


Job Qualifications

Bachelors degree in electrical engineering or computer science. 
Knowledge of cybersecurity guidelines and ability to apply them to UAVs. 
Ability to perform a variety of routine tasks and demonstrate full knowledge of avionics

and electronic procedures and principles.


Must possess: 

The ability to troubleshoot at the component level 
Full knowledge and use of electronic test equipment, hand and soldering tools,

voltage or amperage measuring and recording devices 
The ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics, and technical

orders 
Good analytical, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to

accurately document, report and assess situations and make judgments.

  • Works under general supervision within broad guidelines and access to guidance as needed
  • Works both independently and in a team environment and can work occasional extended hours.

Performance Reviews and Evaluations
Performance will be measured against the established business objectives and continuing
responsibilities, with an emphasis on delivery of quality UAVs that meet customer needs.

Formal performance evaluations are scheduled twice during the first year for new hires.
Evaluations will be performed once a year after the first year of employment.
