What You’ll Do_*
NPFE seeks an Attendance Officer to promote student attendance throughout the Muskegon Heights Academy Public School Academy System by monitoring students with excessive and potential attendance problems, enforcing the provisions of the Code of Michigan truancy and attendance law, assisting in the development of prevention/intervention strategies, monitoring student progress, and making referrals for assistance.

Job Requirements_*
Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required; associates degree of higher highly preferred

Knowledge/Skills

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, administrators, and the community at large
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite

Duties & Responsibilities_*

  • Gather and review attendance data to identify students who are excessively truant.
  • Assess students with attendance problems, make calls to assess any circumstances that the family may be enduring and connect families to resources and support services to promote student attendance and success.
  • Collaborate with school staff to develop interventions for students who are truant and when called upon, assist in the development of individualized service plans to improve attendance.
  • Conduct home visits as needed to support families and promote student attendance.
  • Serve as a liaison between assigned school and such agencies as social services, court services, and the police department regarding student truancy.
  • Act as a resource to administrators, guidance counselors, teachers regarding student attendance.
  • Maintain necessary records ensuring confidentiality of students and their families and prepare related reports.
  • Assist the main office and throughout the school as needed and when necessary
  • Perform other related duties as need or assigned
