The Athletics Groundskeeper is responsible for maintenance of the grounds and athletic fields at the Plumeri Sports Complex. This position will also be assigned, on an as needed basis, to perform landscaping and grounds assignments at the main campus. During the winter months, the incumbent may be assigned, at the discretion of the Grounds Services Manager, to Groundskeeper duties at the Main Campus and fulfills the job duties described in the Groundskeeper-Main Campus job description.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attends safety, equipment and material training as scheduled by supervisor
  • Prepares natural turf athletic fields by lining and chalking baseball and softball fields, re-grooming/re-building (when necessary) pitcher's mound (including clay repair), making soil amendments, dragging and grooming infield areas, inspecting and maintaining proper playing field levels to minimize lip, and inspecting/maintaining the warning track and applying appropriate materials when needed.
  • Groom the synthetic field, including top-dressing and raking rubber infill, spot sanitizing and snow removal using a variety of specifically designated snow removal tools.
  • Assist in proper storage and set up of athletic equipment and other equipment required by the Sports complex.
  • Participate in the daily application and roll up of the infield tarp.
  • Maintains grass, shrubbery, flower beds and trees through cutting, pruning, planting, fertilizing and spraying.
  • Clears pathways and parking lots of snow and other debris
  • Paints and performs minor repairs to pavement, fences, walls, and other exterior areas
  • Repairs and maintains equipment as directed.
  • On occasion moves furniture from one building to another
  • Utilizes equipment and chemicals in a sensible manner
  • Mows, fertilizes and waters lawns, shrubs and trees as required
  • Weeds, prunes, trims and generally maintains the gardens, shrubs and trees on the grounds of the facility
  • Cleans sidewalks, entrances, courtyards and driveways using brooms and power sweepers
  • Assists in chemical cleaning and/or sandblasting of sidewalks or building surfaces to remove stains with anti-stain or graffiti resistant materials.
  • Assists in repairs of sidewalks, fences, signs, parking lots and driveways
  • Removes snow from sidewalks, entrances, courtyards, parking lots, etc. using shovels, snow blowers, snow plows and other related snow removal equipment, as directed in "Snow and Ice Control Plan for The College of Saint Rose".
  • Follows established college policies and procedures, including Residence Hall entry protocol, when entering student spaces and college offices. After working in unoccupied individual offices and student spaces, leaves "hang tag" behind with appropriate information related to the task.
  • Initiates request to purchase supplies related to work assignments according to established procedures.
  • At times, performs responsibilities contained in the Building Maintenance Worker job description, consistent with training and experience
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures
  • Attends all safety, equipment, and materials training as scheduled by supervisor

Job Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 2 years previous grounds maintenance/landscaping experience. Previous experience specifically associated with sports fields and synthetic turf is preferred.
  • Knowledge of NCAA sports field dimensions and standards is preferred.
  • Ability to operate large motorized equipment and smaller power tools related to grounds and athletic field maintenance.
  • Flexibility to adjust the weekly work schedule is required to accommodate events scheduled at the Sports Complex.
  • Must have knowledge of grounds-keeping equipment and proper horticultural techniques
  • Coursework in proper horticultural techniques and/or grounds-keeping experience
  • Must be able to frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide
  • Must be able to read instructions and safety rules, write sentences, communicate verbally, and follow instructions
  • Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, lifts, etc as well as stand, reach, stoop, crouch, sit, kneel, climb, crawl and walk extensively across multiple areas of campus.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • A valid NYS drivers' license is required

This is a Full Time - Full Year position.*
Work days: Monday-Friday

  • Usual daily schedule: 7:00am-3:30pm
  • Flexibility to adjust the weekly work schedule is required to accommodate events scheduled at the Sports Complex, which are often scheduled for the weekends.

RATE OF PAY: $16.60/hour
Employees in this position are considered "essential personnel", which requires them to report for duty during weather/other emergencies that may result in College closings or delays. Regular work assignments change to performing snow removal duties such as shoveling, snowblowing, etc.
