The Oncology Associate Scientific Director, Medical Payer Strategy, provides medical, scientific, strategic and operational input into core value & access medical affairs plan such as: health-care decision maker (Payers, Guidelines, Oncology Pathways & Delivery Networks) engagement strategy; generation of scientific & real-world data (enhancing therapeutic benefit and value); educational initiatives (medical education, data, guidelines, and value proposition); safeguarding patient safety (risk minimization activities and safety surveillance activities). Works closely with commercial & market access teams to provide strategic medical input into core brand value (product) strategies, and to support medical and market access activities (promotional material generation and product launches).

Primary responsibilities include:

  • With oversight, contributes to the development of brand value & access strategies.
  • Lead and support Value & Access Medical Affairs initiatives for AbbVie Oncology Portfolio (Ibrutinib+)
  • Develops and executes Medical Affairs V&A support of priority RWE & HEOR trials
  • Contributes to the development of and leads the execution of the Health Care Decision Maker Medical Education / Advisory Board & Engagement Plan generation in line with TA plan. Lead the individual (Global) Conference planning and execution.
  • Generates clinical, scientific and real-world data per evidence gap assessment.
  • Responsible to manage vendor relationships
  • May support field teams with subject matter expertise.
  • Aligns Medical education and scientific initiatives for HCDMs with Sci Comm Platform. Informs Collaborative Research Partnerships
  • Actively contributes to the development of a TA HCDM Engagement Plan.
  • Contributes to the generation of MI communication content relevant to HCDMs and supports training on Medical Information (MI) materials to field team.
  • Responsible for performing the accurate and detailed relevant medical review of complex advertising and promotional materials for assigned therapeutic area(s) for HCDM audiences within Medical Affairs.

  • Advanced Degree PhD, PharmD, PA or NP preferred. Residency or additional post doctorate experience preferred. Minimum 8 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry or equivalent; substantial understanding of relevant therapeutic area required.
  • Experience in building and translating strategy for diverse Health Care Decision Maker audience.
  • Knowledge of real world & HEOR study methodologies and experience in the design of protocols preferred.
  • Interactions normally require the ability to gain cooperation of others, conduct presentations of technical information concerning specific projects and schedules, etc.
  • Ability to interact externally and internally to support US and Global business strategy. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • May interact with and coordinates appropriate scientific and medical activities with internal stakeholders (i.e. medical TA, commercial, market access, HEOR, MABI, regulatory, etc.) as they relate to on-going medical affairs V&A projects.
  • May assist as consultant and liaison with other corporations when working under licensing agreements and/or in the evaluation of new business development opportunities.
