Associate Director of Programs - Position Summary
The Associate Director of Programs is a strategic, collaborative, community-oriented, and impact driven leader with strong evaluative, relational, management, and implementation skills who will lead programs in the county according to FLY’s theory of change. Working closely with the Alameda County Director and other senior and program leadership, the Associate Director of Programs will: 1) provide organizational leadership and support to all Alameda County programs including CAFA Mentor, Law, STAY FLY, Leadership, and Middle School programs; 2) oversee the implementation of systems for performance management and optimization of programs and staff; and 3) lead strategic efforts in building community partnerships and stakeholder relationships that directly relate to the impact, structure, fidelity and funding of programs in partnership with the Alameda County Director.
Position Responsibilities
Program Staff Supervision and Performance Management
Hire, train, develop and supervise a team of program leaders for the county’s programs.
Co-lead team members in setting individual and program-wide goals, guiding the process of incremental execution, and maintaining accountability for goal achievement.
Conduct annual reviews of direct reports and support staff through training and professional development plans.
Program Operations
Oversee effective day-to-day operations of programs in the county, including the structure and functioning of all program components, to ensure that FLY offers comprehensive, integrated programming that supports youth growth and achieves outcomes.
Provide input and insight to support the supervising director and other key leadership with the design and implementation of policies and procedures for program management and evaluation that integrate youth input, talent initiatives, organizational development goals and performance management systems.
Support the collaboration of program leaders and other specialized roles to build the capacity of staff and to strengthen youth voice in programs.
Stakeholder Engagement and Contracts Management
Develop processes and systems for the supervising program leadership to effectively collaborate on grant reporting.
Collaborate with the supervising director to negotiate grant and contract reporting requirements to ensure government and community engagement efforts prioritize access to FLY’s youth and put service quality above all else.
Engage stakeholders essential to the success of the county’s programs and actively maintain these relationships to ensure consistency of messaging and reputation of FLY’s mission and brand.
Ensure compliance with key governmental and private contracts and funding agreements specific to programs.
Community Partnerships and Systems Change
Develop community partnerships to strengthen programming and access to community resources.
Support the supervising director with stakeholder engagement related to local systems change and advocacy work including participating in committees, workgroups, and/or advisory boards.
Partner with program leadership to identify spaces in the community to elevate youth voice in local advocacy efforts in alignment with the County’s systems change priorities.
Compensation & Benefits
This position is a full-time non-exempt role at a rate of $82,084/annually with differential pay options based on an advanced degree and speaking another language when applicable to the role. Our Total Rewards Package also includes the following:

COVID-19 Vaccination
At FLY, we are committed to the safety of our employees, clients, and all others who enter our workplace. While COVID-19 threatens the health and well-being of all individuals, vaccinations can significantly reduce that threat and help protect our workplace and community. As such, FLY would like to make clear that the COVID-19 vaccination is a condition of employment.
However, FLY does allow staff to apply for exemptions based on medical history or sincerely held religious beliefs or practices. However, this must be approved through FLY’s compliance department. If approved, employee’s will be subject to weekly COVID-19 testing and must wear masks/PPE at all times.
Additionally, FLY will allow accommodations for unvaccinated employees to perform their essential job functions so long as it does not impose either a direct threat to the health and safety of the workplace and employees; or an undue hardship on the organization.
