Associate Attorney (Special Education Litigation)

Work Location: Waxhaw, North Carolina

The Cuddy Law Firm seeks an associate attorney (litigator) to join our North Carolina office. The Cuddy Law Firm is a multi-state firm, primarily representing the parent of students with disabilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Special Education law is a very adversarial practice area. Strong litigation and writing skills are a must. The attorney must possess or be able to develop excellent litigation skills -- writing, discovery, examination, and interpersonal skills are crucial. The candidate must have a very strong work ethic and be able to think critically and creatively through the issues and be able to handle a heavy caseload. The Firm will provide training and support to new attorneys that have the requisite personal qualities. The attorney hired for this position will work from our North Carolina office, but the attorney will be required to litigate New York special education cases. The New York cases are handled remotely by audio/video conference.

Required Skills:

- JD from an accredited law school

-Member of the New York State Bar in good standing

-Demonstrated interest or experience in litigation is essential

-1 to 2 years of practice experience, including courtroom experience is preferred. However, we are willing to train new attorneys.

-Strong critical thinking, interpersonal, public special skills

- Strong time management and organizational skills

-Ability to manage a full caseload effectively and efficiently

-Strong computer skills and competency, especially, Microsoft Office, and Westlaw

- Professional attitude and strong personal ethics

-Ability to work independently and/or with a team of attorneys to develop case strategies

- Ability to negotiate, research, and communicate verbally and in writing effectively

- Adaptability and attention to detail

-Ability to communicate clearly and effectively and manage a high volume of cases is crucial

-Excellent writing skills

-New graduates are encouraged to apply

-Must be admitted or eligible to be admitted in NY State, as work will primarily involve NY State work.
