POSITION DESCRIPTION FOR KNOWLEDGE WORKS LEARNING ACADEMY, INC.

TITLE: Pre-K Assistant Teacher

LOCATION: Phenix City, Alabama

JOB GOAL: To assist the Pre-K Teacher in facilitating school readiness skills and concepts that prepare students for successful transition into kindergarten.

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Director and Pre- K Teacher

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1.High school diploma or equivalent

2. At least nine (9) hours of Early Childhood Education college coursework

3. At least one (1) year experience in a Pre-K setting

4. Good public relations skills

5. Ability to understand the unique needs and learning characteristics of students

6. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457

7. Ability to work collaboratively as a team member with large and/or diverse groups

8. Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities

9. Proficiency in oral, written, and electronic communications

10.Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and perform assignments as directed with accuracy, attention to detail, and within established time frames

11.Such alternatives to the above qualifications as KWLA Board may require.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Demonstrates support for KWLA, its purpose, direction, and priorities.

2. Demonstrates the ability to multi-task and to prioritize tasks efficiently.

3. Maintains confidentiality of KWLA business, its staff, and its students.

4. Demonstrates and models regular and predictable attendance.

5. Demonstrates professional appearance and demeanor at all times.

6. Uses technology for communication or job-related tasks as required.

7. Assists the Pre-K teacher in implementing curriculum and programming specific to the needs of all students.

8. Assists the Pre-K teacher in identifying maintenance concerns.

9. Assists the Pre-K teacher in matters related to student attendance, and any other school matters

10.Assist Pre-K teacher with classroom bulletin boards, instructional materials, prepare homework folders and daily reports.

11.Supervises students as directed.

12.Assists the Pre-K teacher in providing appropriate classroom safety procedures in accordance with state and local guidelines.

13.Participates in center meetings, state meetings, and other activities that relate to professional development and effective school instruction as approved by the center Director.

14.Participates in the school improvement process, Quality rating process and the implementation of school improvement plans, accreditation and accountability reports, and other required plans. 15.Demonstrates high expectations for self and for students and creates an environment that has goals that are both rigorous and achievable.

16.Demonstrates initiative to improve job performance and in areas of responsibility.

17.Assists the Pre-K teacher to manage the student behavior in the classroom and participates in the management of students in other areas of the center and school grounds.

18.Assists the Pre-K teacher in creating a learning environment that is attractive, safe, and conducive for learning.

19.Supervises extra-curricular activities as assigned.

20.Supervises morning, afternoon, extended care, detention, etc. as assigned.

21.Works independently and follows directives.

22.Demonstrates the desire and emotional ability to work with Pre-K students and their parents/guardians

23.Answers questions and responds to requests from the general public and refers requests as appropriate.

24.Performs duties and represents the system in a courteous, positive, and professional manner. 25.Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner.

26.Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.

27.Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system.

28.Reports absences take leave in accordance with KWLA board policy and procedures; prepares for substitute in accordance to board policy and school procedures.

29.Performs other duties as directed by the Principal and the Pre-K teacher.

SALARY: $21,216 Based on the Alabama First Class Pre-K Program Salary Schedule

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 182 days. Training begins June 2022

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated according to board policy.
