Pacific Growers is a family-owned business specializing in producing a wide range of spring and summer annuals, bedding plants, hanging baskets, and finished plugs. Our crops are produced under 16 acres of glass between the Pacific Ocean and the Cascades. Our quality plants are shipped to retailers from California to Alaska. We have an exciting opportunity available for an Assistant Grower to help meet the needs of our expanding business.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Grower position is responsible for assisting in the management of crop growing operations for the greenhouse. This position interfaces with the Head Grower for the proper care of the greenhouse, which includes the principles and practices of plant cultivation, propagation, and protection.
CORE EXPECTATIONS
1. Discuss plant growing activities with Head Grower to conform with production schedules
2. Monitor greenhouse conditions and production procedures to meet quality control standards
3. Responsible for identifying pest, disease, and environmental issues within crops
4. Maintain written records of production cycles, fertilizer applications, and pesticide treatments
5. Maintain current knowledge of growing techniques and technologies
6. Assist Head Grower with other needs as required
CORE COMPETENCIES
1. Ability to calculate figures amounts, proportions, percentages and volume in relation to the application of fertilizers, chemicals and water
2. Ability to use a PC and interpret/produce production reports
3. Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals and technical procedures
4. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals
5. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from owner/management and from employees
6. Ability to maintain comprehensive records of essential growing and production procedures, attributes and results
7. Excel in verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills to interact with team members, and support personnel
8. Have the knowledge and ability to identify major plant groups and be aware of their culture and growth traits
9. Adaptability and multi‐tasking; experience working in a fast‐moving environment
10. Foster positive working relationships
11. Must be a team player and collaborator with ability to work independently
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
1. 4‐year degree in Horticulture or related field or 5 years of related work experience required.
2. Must have in depth knowledge of the safe handling and application of chemicals such as fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, fungicides and plant growth regulators
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Ability to work in conditions typically found in a greenhouse with high humidity and varying temperatures, with a fair amount of moisture present
2. Ability to exert up to 15‐50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently and 10 pounds of force constantly in order to lift and move product
REQUIRED WORK SCHEDULE
1. This position requires a 40‐hour minimum work week or as defined by season and workload
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
1. Report to Owner(s) and Head Grower
2. Work closely with sales managers

Pay: $45,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
