Job Description

Our client is looking for an Assistant GIS Specialist for Greensburg, PA 15601.

Assistant GIS Specialist will act as the Specialist will assist in managing GIS data and projects for the Distribution Modernization team, focusing on the electrical utility client.

The Assistant GIS Specialist will work closely within functional teams to deliver GIS data and GIS services to our clients, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, customer commitment, sense of urgency, and continuous improvement. He/she should display strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and written/oral communication skills. He/she should be a detail-oriented team member who can consistently meet deadlines and possess the ability to work independently as needed. Computer, interpersonal and customer service skills are necessary. He/she must be able to multi-task and demonstrate the ability to work with a diverse work group of stakeholders.


Responsibilities:

  • Support Client needs as directed
  • Data mining detailed information from archive documents
  • Converting MicroStation to AutoCAD
  • Scanning printed drawings and maps for conversion into electronic formatting
  • Support project managers, design engineers, environmental consultants, GIS mapping specialists.
  • Efficient at working independently as well as in team environment
  • Assist in updating of new and existing GIS maps and map layers. using ArcGIS in support of the utility network
  • GIS metadata creation.
  • Perform data research from various sources
  • Perform georeferencing of raster and vector data.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

  • 3-4 Years experience in GIS. Bachelor’s degree in GIS or related field of study preferred but not required
  • Experience working in the ArcGIS desktop environment is preferred but not required (ArcGIS Desktop 10.0 or higher is a plus).
  • Experience working with MicroStation to AutoCAD preferred but not required
  • Basic GIS skills, including data analysis abilities. ·
  • Prior GPS and applicable natural science field experience a plus
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite.
  • Utilize various software packages and information from various sources (MS Access databases, MS Excel spreadsheets and documents such as deeds, field notes etc.)
  • Proficient in working with Google Earth, PDF viewer/editing programs, spreadsheets and other task tracking software preferred but not required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and detailed oriented
  • Capable of working with diverse skill sets in fast paced environment
  • Team player focused on Client service
  • Well organized and able to simultaneously pursue and track multiple project efforts
  • Valid driver’s license required. Must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company’s vehicle driving privileges
