Job Summary:

The Assistant Director of Training (AD) is responsible for supporting the Director of Training and Professional Development in the creation and implementation of a learning strategy intended to improve agency performance, culture, and long-term growth and development. The AD is engaged both in the macro work of visioning and strategizing, as well as the practical day-to-day implementation of learning and development projects and programs, grant deliverables, policy compliance (as per agency, funder, and external oversight requirements), as well leading efforts toward internal departmental and programmatic strategic action plans. In collaboration with the Director and VP, the AD will co-create and co-lead, the operationalization of a strategic plan toward cultivating a learning-centered organizational culture. The AD will manage and improve systems, processes, and platforms to accomplish the following: track and improve training compliance, manage data and generate reports, and create and facilitate training experiences, for effective intra-agency communication and positive staff engagement. While the AD will have primary responsibility over the development and execution of training plans in our Community Services and Campus programs, they will also work closely with the Director of Training and Staff Development as well as other leadership to understand, strategize, and meet staff learning and development needs agency-wide.

Essential Job Functions:

§ Partnering with program leadership and departmental in order to facilitate compliance with mandated training experiences and identify additional training needs for JCCA staff;

§ Develop and facilitate mandated and enrichment training for program staff within mandated timeframes;

§ Maintain records of all contracted trainers and agencies for mandated and enrichment trainings;

§ Partner with Human Resources & Compliance in order to track staff compliance with mandated trainings through the agency’s Learning Management System (Relias);

§ Develop curricula utilizing various formats (webinars, PowerPoint, etc.) and modalities (in-person, virtual, etc.);

§ Remain updated about trends in the field including evidence-based models, in order to further promote the use of such models and practice within the agency.

§ Partner with leadership to develop training plans for targeted evidence-based models

§ Participate in external training networks, and local (ACS, DOHMH, COFCCA) and state (OCFS) training and practice meetings as needed;

§ Maintain and submit training reports to ACS, OCFS, and other governing bodies as needed;

§ Collaborate with Human Resources, Quality, Compliance, and program leads in audit preparation related to training;

§ Participate in regular department and agency meetings to assist with the execution of operational planning related to training

§ Coordinate initiatives that improve practice and professional development for agency staff in collaboration with internal and external partners;

§ Supervise various levels of training staff.

§ Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Education and Skills Required:

  • Master-level in social work, education, public health, or other learning professional or social services field
  • At least two years of supervisory experience, particularly in remote supervision
  • Strong communication skills, including in large group settings
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and computer skills
  • Strong teaching, training, coaching and facilitation skills in both virtual and in-person contexts
  • Strong workshop and curricula design skills
  • Strong understanding of social and organizational change strategies through education, learning, and development
  • Strong understanding of DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) topics including systemic justice and implicit bias
  • Strong understanding and dedication to the ongoing work toward race equity, LGBQIA+ affirmation and gender equity, accessibility, and other interpersonal and systemic justice topics
  • Strong understanding of trauma and trauma-informed approaches
  • Proficiency in web-based systems for developing content and facilitating remote training
  • Knowledge of child welfare and family services
  • Experience working with children and families in a therapeutic setting preferred
  • Flexibility to travel throughout NYS
  • Bilingual/Spanish preferred

Salary: $75K -$82K
