Job Description
The College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions at The University of Hartford invites applications for a twelve (12) month Assistant Director of Clinical Education and Clinical Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy faculty position beginning Summer 2023.

Responsibilities
Applicants will be responsible for teaching courses related to the applicant’s area of expertise and will also be responsible for teaching courses related to clinical education and professionalism. Additional responsibilities will include contributions to program development and assessment, including accreditation standards, and active involvement in Department, College and University committees. Applicants should describe in their letter of intent how their teaching and/or scholarship and professional productivity will advance intercultural competence in all students.

In addition to teaching courses in the applicant’s area of expertise, there will be opportunities to teach in our innovative University Interdisciplinary Studies program.

The ideal candidate for Clinical Assistant Professor will demonstrate professional productivity as evidenced by sustained excellence and innovation in their clinical practice, and service to academic, professional, or Hartford area communities. Candidates will be expected to remain active in clinical or professional practice and contribute to the profession through publications, presentations, or other publicly disseminated work. Clinical-applied faculty are expected to engage in professional productivity such as consulting, as well as to actively participate in departmental and school committees, advise students, and contribute to student recruitment and retention. The initial Clinical/Applied contract is 1-2 years and subsequent longer-term contracts are based on review of performance and the continuing need for the position.

Required Qualifications
Required for the Assistant Director of Clinical Education/Clinical Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy position:
  • Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree, an Academic Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy, or a doctorate in a related field (Ph.D., Ed.D., D.Sc.). ABD candidates with degree completion before July 1, 2023, are encouraged to apply.
  • An active Physical Therapy license or eligibility for licensure in the State of Connecticut
  • Minimum of three (3) years as a licensed Physical Therapist
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience with clinical education or supervision of students as an ACCE/DCE, SCCE, or CI
  • Applicants not meeting these qualifications will not be considered for hire.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Clinical expertise in one or more of the following areas: anatomy, pathophysiology, cardiopulmonary, neurology, geriatrics, and/or pediatrics
  • Previous teaching experience in higher education settings in physical therapy
  • Previous experience teaching or mentoring diverse groups or diverse students
  • Use of evidence-based teaching strategies
  • Board certifications or advanced certification
