JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Norfolk Southern Information Technology Department is currently seeking an entry level application developer to join a dynamic development and support team in our beautiful Midtown offices in Atlanta, GA. This position provides the opportunity for the individual to be involved with development of a variety of enterprise web applications and with existing systems enhancements to help facilitate train operations. Other responsibilities may include support, troubleshooting and problem resolution skills.
EDUCATION:
- A bachelor’s degree (preferably in Computer Science, Engineering, Math or related field)
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- A solid grasp of web or backend application development. Experience or coursework developing applications in an object-oriented architecture
- Knowledge and experience in some of the following areas: Core Java, J2EE, Ajax, Ext JS or any similar JavaScript application framework, XML.
- Experience with IDE and Development tools such as Eclipse, Junit, JBoss, WebLogic and Git
- Familiarity with UNIX or Linux, Good understanding of Relational Databases (SQL, Oracle, DB2) and NoSQL
- Strong collaboration skills, team oriented and ability to work in agile development environment.
- Effective independent and team player and self-starter with high adaptability to new technologies.
- Familiarity with testing methodologies and strategies, strong teamwork ethic and customer support focus, excellent verbal and written communication skills
SKILLS DESIRED:
- Tibco BW exposure is a plus.
- Knowledge of EAI messaging standards like WebSphere MQ and JMS messaging, using both point-to-point and pub/sub messaging models.
- Transportation/Logistic Industry experience is a plus
What you’ll be doing:
- Develop and support software using Java EE and Java Script with emphasis on reusability.
- Creating and maintaining applications that will integrate with different technologies
- Interfacing with customers, business partners, IT team members to resolve business issues
- Understand and analyze details provided in the use case, or task narratives.
- Enhancing unique and exciting systems that support business operations including train management and control systems.
- Technical testing and trouble shooting in a test lab environment.
- Analyze and resolve technical issues independently.
