RSG is looking for experienced Analyst candidates to perform a wide range of analytical activities in support of our transportation planning and model applications practice. RSG seeks an Analyst who will help produce high-quality, meaningful planning documents and policies based on good data and sound analysis. Your work will involve a stimulating combination of policy savvy, stakeholder engagement, and quantitative analysis. You will help craft deliverables that affect people where they live in the form of long-range transport plans, corridor or project study findings, freight plans, climate change mitigation/GHG reduction plans, investment prioritization strategies, feasibility studies, and more. In addition, you will support process and analytic innovation to add value to such outcomes, and you will help ensure that equity is appropriately centered in them. You will work as part of project teams spanning multiple firms and client staff. You and your teammates will all be dedicated to providing high-quality results to public and private transportation organizations throughout the US and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Perform policy analysis in the context of long-range transportation planning for states, regions, and local jurisdictions.
  • Help write planning documents (e.g., long-range plan, transportation study conclusions)
  • Contribute to the development and application of planning processes including work plans, project charters, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Support a variety of data collection activities (e.g., traffic, transit, land use, safety, system performance, etc.) for analysis and visualization; and helps narrate the story that these data tell.
  • Support a variety of policy research activities (e.g., assessing applicable federal, state, and local planning regulations; synthesizing information from prior planning documents; identifying the state of best practices for planning processes and supporting analytics)
  • Perform basic analysis using appropriate tools (e.g., Excel, GIS, R, Python, and associated tool libraries) in support of transport planning process and to answer transport policy questions.
  • Conduct thorough quality control on all document and analytic deliverables.
  • Help coordinate and facilitate stakeholder engagement activities under the direction of senior staff (stakeholders include clients, other RSG staff, client peers, and the general public).
  • Help onboard, mentor, and train new junior staff; enhance the organizational well-being of RSG by participating in and contributing to team meetings, company seminars, and other events.

Education, Experience, and Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in transportation, urban planning, GIS, statistics, math, economics, psychology, geography, engineering, or a similarly relevant field of study
  • 1-4 years of professional experience in applicable fields
  • Strong public and visual communication skills
  • Ability to interpret complex technical topics clearly to project teams and stakeholders
  • Ability to facilitate engagement and build relationships with stakeholders over a long period of time.
  • Experience with visual tools (Shiny, ArcGIS or QGIS, Tableau, PowerBI, etc.)
  • Strong analytic, quantitative, and problem-solving skills
  • Extremely organized, detail-oriented, resourceful, and flexible
  • Works independently and as part of project teams supporting a variety of projects
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver work on a timeline
  • Strong writing, communication, and teaming skills with colleagues and clients
  • Manages small projects or parts of larger projects with an increasing amount of responsibility
  • Demonstrated abilities with a broad range of analytic techniques and special analysis tools (e.g., Geospatial Information Systems (GIS), SQL, Python, R)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and tasks
  • Effective interpersonal skills · Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in or desire to learn survey research methods and/or behavioral modeling

Preferred

  • Proven technical and business writing and editing skills
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a project team supporting a variety of nationwide projects
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple simultaneous project workloads, projects, and priorities
  • Success dealing with diverse stakeholders
  • Demonstrated writing ability with a portfolio of work appearing in adopted plans or similar deliverables. For recent graduates, this could take the form of capstone projects, independent research reports, or significant research-informed class writing assignments.
  • Delivered high-quality quantitative analytic products evidenced by a portfolio (Excel workbooks, Python, R, Java, etc.) that produced and visualized meaningful analytic findings. For recent graduates, these could be class or capstone assignments.

Physical Demands

  • Requires periodic travel
  • Frequently involves standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Operates a computer and other office equipment, such as a calculator, copy machine, or computer printer.
  • Frequently communicates with colleagues and clients. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Ability to uphold the stress of traveling.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment or materials up to 25lbs.
