Accountant - Payroll Focus Job at Eastland Memorial Hospital
Job Summary:
Assists with posting and processing of accounting transactions including, but not limited to, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger. Responsible for bi-weekly payroll processing and ensures payroll information is kept current and accurate. Maintains patient confidentiality and ensures compliance with HIPAA policies and procedures. Maintains strict confidentiality of financial and personnel matters.

Processes biweekly payroll and employee benefits:
Ensures that new employees are correctly entered into the payroll system timely and that GL distributions are accurate between departments.
Ensures that payroll is entered and paid timely. Ensures that employee changes for payroll are processed timely.
Reconciles various benefit withholding payroll records to General Ledger including dental insurance withholding, life insurance, medical insurance withholding.
Accrues monthly payroll and related taxes.
Ensures all related payroll taxes and reports are timely paid and filed.
Ensures accuracy of Vacation and Sick schedules for all staff and adjusts liability monthly.
Calculates and transmits employee pension and company match withholding timely.
Formally documents payroll process and procedures.
Enters previous day’s deposit information into the general ledger software program; confirms amounts entered in GL balance to bank records daily; prepares all miscellaneous deposits for the bank, processes checks electronically; informs billing of any deposit activity related to patient accounts/insurances.
Assists with month-end processes as needed
Assists with year-end audit.
Assists with the development and implementation of new procedures to improve the quality and quantity of work processed.
Attends and participates in meetings and in-services as required. Participates in professional development activities. Serves on committees as requested.
Performs related work as required and other duties (similar physical requirements and OSHA risk level) as assigned.

Computer & Math: Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel; accurately calculates and interprets math and statistics.
Education and Qualifications:
Education: Associates degree in Accounting or Business Administration; Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration, preferred. High school diploma preferred or GED required.
Experience: At least two years basic bookkeeping experience in an office setting. One year experience in payroll preferred.
