The Academic Advisor is responsible for managing an assigned caseload of students and providing comprehensive academic advising that supports the guided pathways principles. This position delivers effective and holistic advising support services across multiple academic disciplines, acting as an essential resource and single point of contact for students from enrollment through completion of their educational goals. Using the guided pathways principles, the Academic Advisor will assist with clarifying students educational path through the development of academic plans, guiding students while on the path by monitoring academic progress and key performance metrics, and providing the necessary supports and resources to help students stay on the path. This position must work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
1. Provide holistic academic advising services to students across multiple disciplines, including interpretation of placement tests, degree audit and curricular requirements, transfer requirements, career guidance, academic policies, and the application of College academic probation policies.
2. Assist students in the development of academic plans to include choosing a program of study, planning course sequences with degree audits, and clarifying educational goals and pathways that support student success, retention, and completion.
3. Provide guidance and assistance with planning schedules and registering for courses.
4. Ensure students understand content and structure of FCC programming including graduation and/or transfer requirements for specific programs of study as assigned.
5. Serve as the point of contact to inform students about alternatives, limitations and possible consequences of academic decisions (e.g. adding, dropping and withdrawing from courses; change of program, major selection, and/or transfer institutions).
6. Educate and advise students on current and future course planning and registration processes, referring them to relevant campus resources to meet their needs.
7. Participate in advising programs with specific and targeted populations including, but not limited to, first-year advising and registration sessions, new student, open campus student orientations, at-risk, dual enrollment, athletes, returning, veterans, and adult students.
8. Promote student success by identifying and referring at risk students to the appropriate resources and track follow-through for data collection and reporting.
9. Develop partnerships with academic program managers and department chairs to establish advising structures that promote student success and increase retention and program completion efforts.
10. Evaluate individual students academic progress; including monitoring and responding to Student Success Alerts by assigned program/discipline.
11. Proactively conduct student outreach to students (current and returning) during specific times within each semester, monitoring progress toward educational goals.
12. Manage all aspects of scheduling for student appointments in caseload, document interactions, and complete additional administrative tasks as needed.
13. Apply best practices for providing advising services and the integration of technology.
14. Participate in comprehensive trainings and team meetings to identify innovative ways to conduct academic advising, transfer advising, satisfactory academic progress (SAP), and work in support of goal completion.
15. Work with the Executive Director on the continuous improvement of services provided to a diverse student population.
16. Supports various enrollment, retention, and completion initiatives of the College.

Required Minimum Qualifications
1.Bachelor’s Degree
2.Two (2) years of experience in a college environment providing academic advising to students
Desired Qualifications
1.Master’s degree in student counseling, development, education or related field
2.Experience imlementing retention and student success initiatives
3.Experience developing and maintaining progess reports
4.Experience using an integrated student information system
5.Experience working with diverse student populations
6.Bilingual in English and Spanish
