Wetland and Watershed Specialist (BBP) Job at Ocean County College
This position primarily assists the BBP Program Scientist, Wetlands and Watershed Coordinator, or other staff with various science, monitoring and related tasks, including data collection, quality assurance, geospatial and other analyses. This position is grant funded; continued employment is dependent on the availability of additional grant or other funding.

1. Conducting monitoring and assessment of coastal habitats, including freshwater streams and their riparian zones (e.g., habitat disturbance and condition, stream connectivity) and coastal wetland marshes and their shorelines (e.g., floral and faunal changes, marsh edge or elevation changes) using standard methods and data quality protocols.
2. Conducts standardized desktop analyses of collected/related data (e.g., stream flow, marsh vegetation, shoreline edge, marsh elevation) to assess condition and trends, including predictions of future conditions resulting from climate change.
3. Responsible for routine care and maintenance of field equipment.
4. In conjunction with senior BBP staff, oversees field teams conducting monitoring and assessment tasks.
5. In conjunction with senior BBP staff, supports training of other BBP part-time staff and volunteers in monitoring and assessment protocols.
6. Communicates with the public formally/informally on familiar BBP projects.
7. Prepares draft documents and sections of reports, presentations using required computer software and platforms.
8. Assists in the preparation of grant proposals related to wetland and watershed assessments and enhancement or restoration projects.
9. Stays current in all OCC Right-to-Know policies, regulations, and safety-related procedures.
10. Related projects and duties as assigned. Required Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in natural resource management, biology, chemistry, or a related discipline (e.g., environmental science, forestry, etc.) is required.
2. At least one year of experience in ecological/environmental research activities is required.
3. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
4. The ability to lift at least 30 pounds and willingness to work in strenuous and adverse field settings is required.
5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills is required. 6. A valid N.J. Driver’s license in good standing is required.
1. North Atlantic Aquatic Connectivity Collaborative Lead Observer status is preferred.
2. Familiarity with wetland identification protocols is preferred.
3. At least one year of experience with GIS, RTK GPS, and statistical analyses software packages (e.g. SAS, R, MATLAB, etc.) is preferred.
4. One-year of experience working on and/or operating small boats (under 20’), and completion of a N.J. Boating Safety certification within three months of being hired are also preferred.
5. One year of other experience in coastal and/or estuarine field work (e.g., forests, soils, flora, fauna, plankton, benthos) is preferred.
