Job Overview

Responsible for assisting with the coordination and planning of fitness and wellness programs and activities. These duties include exercise classes, health seminars and special events, scheduling, supervision, and maintenance of the day-to-day operations and programs of the County's Wellness Centers/Senior Centers. This position is also responsible for all job-related administrative tasks such as staff, equipment, and facility supervision, monthly and annual reporting, etc.

Ideal Candidate

The Ideal Candidate will have a minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Wellness, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology or other related field and at least 2 years of experience working in a wellness or fitness center environment. They must be able to communicate well and have the ability to motivate people to make healthy choices and lifestyle changes. Experience working one on one with clients to assess wellness needs and develop workout plans and knowledge of proper nutrition is a plus. The applicant should be capable of developing curriculum for classes on healthy lifestyles and eating and exercise habits as well as exercise classes and other health related fields.

This position will work at both the Lee Davis Community Resource Center and Plant City Community Resource Centers as their primary location(s) with two other offices based at the South Shore Community Resource Center and Wimauma Suncoast Community Health Clinic (Healthy Living Fitness Center-Wimauma). They will be required to cover all sites on a regular basis for class instruction, vacations, training purposes, etc. It is very beneficial that this individual speaks Spanish, however it is not mandatory.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in planning, organizing, documenting, and implementing health/wellness programming events for participants.
  • Assists in conducting group and individual health and wellness seminars.
  • Coordinates personal training programs and associated processes.
  • Assists in conducting community outreach and seeks out community partnerships to expand health and wellness program offerings.
  • Provides documentation on evaluation of wellness programs as it pertains to marketing, attendance, participation, and performance data.
  • Provides training to staff and volunteers on health and wellness topics.
  • Provides administrative task support assistance at centers such as answering phone calls, maintaining inventory, data entry, filing, copying, etc.
  • Oversees fitness and wellness program marketing materials and processes.
  • Inspects fitness and wellness facility areas for maintenance and repair, cleanliness, safety, and efficiency of operations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required

  • Associate's degree; and At least 2 years of experience in the health and wellness field;

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education (not less than a high school diploma/GED), training, and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above; AND
  • Current CPR/Basic Life Support, AED, and First Aid Certification.
