Position Overview

This is routine manual and clerical work in the operation of a warehouse. Employees perform manual and clerical tasks in the receiving, storing, and care of equipment and supplies. Work involves responsibility for a small but diversified store room or specialized store work involving the control of a large amount of a single category of goods. Work includes routine activities in the maintenance of simple work assignments, leaving to the employees of this class only minor decisions of work methods.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

(All duties listed may not be included in any one position nor does the list include all tasks found in a position of this class.)

  • Answer phone when required.
  • Receive checks and records receipt of goods; stores goods in proper storage places; receives delivery orders; withdraws goods from stock, checking for required commodity, size, and lot.
  • Receive signed delivery tickets; posts to stock record accounts.
  • Issue warehouse stock to various departments.
  • Spot checks inventory at the end of each month.
  • Take or assist in taking physical inventory of stock.
  • Employee will be responsible for delivering merchandise to County Departments.
  • Retrieve old or damaged merchandise from departments for auctions.
  • Pick up supplies from local vendors.
  • Maintain and service delivery vehicles when needed.
  • Issue Purchase Order numbers when needed. Initiates requisitions for replenishing stocks (subject to approval).
  • Retrieve old or damaged merchandise from departments to be auctioned at a later date.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Any combination of training and experience is equivalent to graduation from a standard senior high school.
  • A CDL with Hazard Materials endorsement may be required.
  • A minimum of four to five years of experience in clerical and stockroom work is required.
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability
  • Some knowledge of storeroom methods and procedures.
  • Some knowledge of the kinds and grades of the supplies dealt with.
  • Some knowledge of transportation agencies and shipment methods.
  • Ability to follow oral or written instructions, pack goods properly for shipment, and keep simple inventory and store records.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
  • Regularly lift and/or move objects 10-50lbs occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 lbs.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.
  • Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.
