Serve as liaison between the District Attorney’s Office and members of the community who are, or have been, a victim, witness or interested party in a criminal case. Maintain caseload documenting current information for witnesses and securing the presence of witnesses needed for court hearings.

Initiate and maintain contact with victims & witnesses
Provide a consistent point of contact for all future court-related events and supply information regarding their rights as a victim in the criminal justice system
Offer information regarding the availability of support services (advocates) and encourage and assist victims in contacting and utilizing those services
Advise victims of their right to request financial compensation and provide access to information about Crime Victims Compensation Board when appropriate
Provide restitution packets with victim statements to all victims in a timely manner
Maintain contact with family members of victims of homicide and update them with case information as it becomes available
Maintain attitude of respect and compassion towards all persons.

Manage case management system data and communicate and consult with attorneys regarding victim, witness, or situational case matters
Enter new case data into case management system consistent with approved office standards
Review all cases for potential witnesses and law enforcement officers not endorsed and determine their involvement in the case. Prepare motions to endorse as needed, including efiling documents and advising attorneys of hearing date.
Document victim/witness contact notes and maintain that information in the JustWare database according to office standards, including updating addresses and telephone numbers.
Advise attorneys of relevant issues based on knowledge of the law, discretion and common sense.

Coordinate victims and witnesses’ attendance in court.
Prepare and issue subpoenas for victims/witnesses. Conduct research and coordinate with Investigations staff to locate any missing or uncooperative witnesses.
Contact law enforcement agencies outside of Wichita to advise them of any court dates and when they will need to appear.
Schedule appointments and advocate support for victims or witnesses.
Initiate and obtain travel arrangements and lodging for out of town/state victims and witnesses.
Manage case information and materials in a confidential manner.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma supplemented by training courses in law enforcement or criminal justice. Minimum one year experience in investigative or court related work that provides good working knowledge of the criminal justice system and court procedures. Any combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field that provides knowledge of court procedures and the criminal justice system. Three or more years working in the criminal justice system directly with victims, attorneys or other participants – preferably prosecution. Bilingual.
