Job Title: Emergency Room Victim Advocate

Reports To: Crisis Advocacy Managers
FLSA Status: Hourly Part-Time Non-Exempt
Hours per week: 20 per week (This position will consist of two 10-hour shifts)
Salary:  $19.23 - $21.63

Job Summary

The exciting new position is embedded inside the Emergency Department of the University Medical Center and related departments providing services to clients when they need it most. This position will consist of two 10-hour weekly shifts and work with medical professionals and the Las Vegas Metro Police Department. Responsibilities include providing trauma-informed crisis intervention with adult and pediatric survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking, assessing a victim's safety and immediate needs to provide the highest level of care and support. The position involves efficiently processing legal emergency protection order documents online, safety planning, and providing information and referrals to victims. Emergency Room Victim Advocates will be embedded 24/7/365. The work schedule and days off will depend on department needs. This position is Grant Funded through at least December 2024 and will continue thereafter as funding allows.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ascertain survivors’ needs and provide crisis intervention.
  • Utilize all resources to provide every victim with options for a safer place, safety plan, and resources.
  • Keep abreast of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking services and resources to deliver high-quality service.
  • Log all services into the database to ensure accurate and complete data collection.
  • Adhere to SafeNest's client-focused, trauma-informed policies and procedures while performing day-to-day activities to ensure successful operation within the department.
  • Utilize knowledge in trauma-informed care to provide the best response to victims on site.
  • Exhibit positive teamwork by collaborating with volunteers and/or staff.
  • Provide support to and maintain positive communications with the PS417 Volunteers.
  • Act as a point of contact for survivors, hospital staff, LVMPD, and PS417.
  • Complete Emergency Protection Orders over the phone.
  • Adhere to agency standards of ethics and confidentiality.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • AA degree in human services, social work, victims' services, criminal justice or related field, and one year of social services experience. A combination of experience and education may be considered.
  • Excellent written and oral communication considering all audiences, including but not limited to victims in crisis, judges, and law enforcement.
  • Knowledge and understanding of community resources.
  • Adaptability to manage competing demands, changes in the work environment, and situations at hand.
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate empathy, compassion, and care to all callers.
  • Ability to deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Strategic and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to speak and enter data into databases or computer systems concurrently.
  • Ability to type 25WPM required.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is preferred.

  • Must be able to sufficiently hear communication via phone/headset to enter conversations into the database.
  • Must communicate verbally in English so callers, victims, and staff can understand and communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to sit and work on a computer for 8 hours daily.
  • Must have a smartphone capable of downloading and operating a dispatching app.
  • Work Environment and Other Requirements:
  • The office is located at University Medical Center – Emergency Department, 800 Hope Pl, Las Vegas, NV 89106.
  • Advocates will work in direct contact with someone who has just experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or human trafficking.
  • The noise level in the work environment varies.
