Position Summary
We are seeking a data-driven VP, Marketing—Direct Mail to drive our overall Direct Mail marketing strategy and execution for our customer acquisition, cross-sell, and win back programs. Direct Mail is currently responsible for the majority of our customer acquisition and this role will be responsible for setting Direct Mail strategy integrated with overall Marketing strategy and digital strategy specifically and driving execution. This position manages a team of 15 passionate Marketers and is responsible for overall marketing strategy, targeting, design, and creative services.
This role is primarily based in our Chicagoland office of Naperville IL or Mt Laurel New Jersey office. Our office environment is a key driver of our company culture and employee experience, so a regular in-office hybrid model is expected. ~ 10% travel expected.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Manage a team with responsibility for external DM agencies along with the internal DM team.
  • Drive new customer growth owning strategy and execution for all DM marketing.
  • Improve the scale and efficiency of our DM program via improvements to data modeling, targeting (mail recipients, product offered, etc.), creative, and offer.
  • Drive LTV/CAC headset and optimization across the DM team and larger Marketing organization. Specific responsibilities include allocating budget, selecting targets, and setting individual program goals and measurement criteria, as well driving cross-functional execution.
  • Drive growth in the scale and efficiency of our Affinity program partnerships through improved data modeling, creative development and testing, product strategy, and promotional offer testing. Partner with the BizDev function to give insights as to how to grow the programs and to provide Marketing results reporting.
  • Drive growth in the scale and efficiency of our D2C program, including via the launch of a new Company/consumer brand in 2023. Increase the volume of customers acquired at our LTV/CAC targets by working both sides of the equation—decrease CAC through more efficient modeling and targeting of consumers, DM cost reduction initiatives, better-performing offers development, and improving LTV thought acquiring loyal customers. Build brand equity for new D2C consumer brand via brand-accretive DM creative, and partner with Digital function and call center to ensure cohesive multichannel brand experience.
  • Partner with Digital and the Contact Center to orchestrate compelling multi-touch omnichannel customer experiences that sell and create loyalty.
  • Optimize our DM production function for efficiency, effectiveness, and minimization of errors. Evaluate, choose, and drive implementation of Marketing Automation software where appropriate. Rationalize the production function and separate it from strategy/planning processes.
  • Manage our creative process to focus on breakthrough testing, new formats, and develop a rigorous LTV/CAC centered program around Creative.
We’re Excited if This is You
  • 10+ years’ experience leading teams that are building and implementing Direct Mail marketing strategy.
  • Demonstrated success driving significant growth of a Direct Mail business’ scale and efficiency, preferably a D2C continuity/subscription business.
  • Clear understanding of evolving DM best practices
  • Track record understanding of P&L impacts
  • Prior people manager experience with the ability to serve as a coach who rewards positive performance and addresses deficiencies in a timely manner.
  • Knows how to establish followership with direct and indirect reports.
Education (preferred and or required)
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or related field preferred.
