Job Description

Position Title: Utility/Field Worker

Reports To: General Manager or Field Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

General Purpose:

Read meters, assist with installation of water and sewer services, and fix leaks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Read meters

- Clean trucks and tools

- Check meters for leaks

- Serve notices to customers

- Water turn on and offs

- Fix leaks

- Install meters

- Install lines and appurtenances

- Maintain lift stations

- Maintain grinder pump stations

- Other duties as assigned by the General Manager

Desired Minimum Qualifications:

- High school diploma of equivalent

- Experience with hand tools and equipment

Certificates and Licenses Required:

- Valid driver’s license

Supervision Received:

Receives direction and guidance from the General Manager

Supervision Exercised: Yes as needed

Tools and Equipment Used:

Pickup truck, shovel, pick, digging iron, weed eater, lawn mower, hand tools, backhoe, mini-excavator, jack hammer, dewatering pumps, cut off saw, chain saw, telephone, calculator, sewer jetting machine and electric sewer snake.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos is required. Ability to write simple correspondence is required. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization is required.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and use whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations is required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, depth, peripheral, and color vision.

Work Environment:

Outdoor work is required when reading meters, installing lines and meters, and fixing leaks. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in outside weather conditions. The employee works near moving mechanical parts and in precarious places, and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, at times loud when operating equipment.

Hours:

Perform related work as required. Work schedule may consist of irregular hours and may require more than a 40-hour work week in times of emergencies. Must be willing to be on call and available when needed. To the extent possible the Sun Valley PSD will make a reasonable effort to accommodate employee’s religious practices.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
