Duties
We are looking for a Underwriter Trainee - Agribusiness to join our team in West Des Moines, IA in January 2023.
The Agribusiness Underwriting Division is a fast growing division and has been established to serve farmers, ranchers, and commercial operations that support a variety of agricultural industries.
Duties:
The Underwriter Trainee will participate in a training program which will include learning basis insurance knowledge, interaction with departments, and PHLY product training. A portion of the training program will involve shadowing of current Underwriters. The Trainee provides support and assistance to Agribusiness underwriting staff by handling administrative and routine underwriting tasks. A typical day will include the following:
- Interacts with and learns the role of other groups (loss control, claims, administration, etc.) in providing products and services to routine accounts.
- Supports Agribusiness underwriting staff using the necessary systems, forms, methods and procedures to assess and rate for risk and exposures.
- Learn and understand key Agribusiness insurance concepts as well as learn and maintain knowledge of company workflow and company procedures.
- Contact agents, brokers and marketing department as appropriate to clarify and correct inconsistent, incorrect or missing application/submission information, and conduct follow ups with agents, brokers and marketing department on binding conditions and additional information requests.
- Accurately enter all new and renewal submissions, update the workflow tracking system with appropriate entries, run reports to determine assignments and complete account status follow up by contacting agents, brokers and the PHLY marketing department via the most appropriate method of communication.
Qualifications
Successful candidates will have:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
- Major in Agricultural studies and/or Business studies is preferred
- Ability to establish and build healthy working relationships and partnerships with clients, vendors, and peers
- Analytical and problem solving mindset
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented and interested in learning the insurance field
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
