Tribal Child Support Technician


INFORMATION

Hours of Work: M-F, 8:00 am-4:30 pm


PURPOSE

Provide administrative case support to TCSU Specialists to achieve comprehensive child support services to children, custodial parent, and non-custodial parent.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports To: Tribal Child Support Manager

Supervises: N/A

Liaison To: N/A


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Analyze cases to determine appropriate actions.
  • Locate parents and their assets using various investigative techniques.
  • Conduct investigations and interviews to secure, document, and prepare usable information.
  • Draft letters, Confidential Information Forms and other documents as needed for case processing.
  • Document contacts, correspondence, and record all actions in Right Track data system.
  • Inform applicants of case progress upon request.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Assist case specialists to initiate actions to establish paternity, child support orders, and income withholding orders under guidelines set by the Tribe.
  • Assist Case Specialists with client locates, client contact as needed by case specialist, notify clients via telephone regarding court hearings.
  • File all court documents, genetic test results, and correspondence pertaining to the case.
  • Assist case specialists prepare for court hearings.
  • Respond to phone calls from clients and the public regarding Tribal Child Support Services.
  • Inform clients of late or uncollected payments to assist in appropriate collections.
  • Record and track court fees and court ordered payments (genetic testing costs, service fees, etc.).
  • Provide backup to TCSU Specialists and administrative office staff.
  • Attend child support specific training.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Excellent computer skills including MS office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret and explain laws, rules and regulations pertaining to child support.
  • Working knowledge of interviewing and investigative techniques.
  • Strong mathematical and/or accounting skills.
  • Excellent de-escalation and conflict management skills.
  • Ability to use independent judgment when assessing client needs within program or legal guidelines.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions in stressful situations.
  • Familiarity with Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian cultures

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

  • HS diploma or GED
  • Two years clerical experience in child support or similar program
  • Valid Alaska driver’s license

Substitutions:

Additional formal education and/or related verifiable training may be substituted for the experience on the full time equivalency basis.


UNUSUAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR RESTRICTIONS

The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 40 lbs. Travel on small aircraft or ferry may be required.
