The Transportation Worker 3 Equipment Operator, under general supervision, performs full-performance level skilled work in the construction and maintenance of highways. This position will serve in the Technical Support Division. Duties will include a variety of tasks such as inspecting and maintaining drilling equipment and vehicles, logging, drawing maps of boring locations, packaging samples, gathering appropriate sampling tools, etc. The selected applicant will train to become a drilling operator and act as a backup to drillers, while providing general support with geotechnical drilling, to facilitate site sampling, analysis and investigation. Operates a variety of motorized highway maintenance equipment such as skid steer, utility tractor, aerial bucket truck, front-end loader, tandem-axel truck, and snowplow. Makes major repairs to highways, culverts, and bridge structures. Makes minor mechanical repairs in the field such as changing tires, blades or filters. Responsible for maintaining equipment maintenance including but not limited to cleaning and lubricating equipment and checking fluid levels. May be exposed to hazardous working conditions and inclement weather. Performs related work as required, including flagging, erects traffic control signs and barricades on construction and maintenance projects, shoveling materials, cleaning culverts, mowing, and brush cutting. Performs other related duties as required.The selected applicant will be placed in a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program. Progression through the apprenticeship program is dependent upon hours completed, proficiency in work, training completed, as well as maintaining and/or obtaining a Commercial Drivers License (CDL). In the area of assignment of Equipment Operator, a valid class A or class B Commercial Driver’s License is required. Pay Grade: 12HBase Hourly Rate: $20.2112

Transportation Worker 3 – Equipment OperatorOperates hydraulic crane.Utilizes heavy motorized equipment to excavate, backfill, grade, or level soil and aggregate.Utilizes heavy motorized equipment to grade surfaces, roll or compact soil and aggregate.Leads or trains lower level equipment operators.Assists Core Driller in positioning drilling rig.Adds rods or augers to drill.Removes core samples from core barrel.Assists in cleaning and maintenance of drilling rig and related tools and equipment.Installs steel piling in pre-drilled holes.Cleans drilling site of debris after drilling completed.Sets and detonates explosive charges for earth removal.Travel may be required; therefore, a valid driver’s license is required.In the area of assignment of Equipment Operator, a valid class A or class B Commercial Driver’s License is required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED TRAINING/EDUCATION • No formal education required. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE • Equipment Operator: Valid Class A or B CDL and four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience operating heavy equipment such as bulldozers, end loaders, dump trucks, drillers, etc.• Substitutions: Successful completion of an approved vocational school program may be substituted for two (2) year of the required experience in the specified functional area.
