Training Facilitator

(Part-time 16 hours per month)

Role:

A Better Way offers up to a thousand courses each year for the local social services child welfare community. We train professionals working to support court dependent families and youth in foster care, juvenile justice involved families, as well as resource families fostering children. We are seeking a lively passionate professional with social welfare knowledge to join us in training social workers, therapists, psychologists, and folks with lived experience. Course topics will be collaboratively created with A Better Way Training Program and Leadership Team. Some topics may include but are not limited to; new hire orientation courses, clinical competency courses for mental health clinicians supporting youth in care, and parenting/behavior strategy and child development courses for foster families. This is a creative and engaging role where the trainer will be using various presentation skills to keep audience engaged during online and in person courses. Courses are remote via Zoom. Some courses may eventually be in person in Berkeley, Oakland, and occasionally Fairfield. This Part Time Training Facilitator role is responsible for 12-16 hours per month presenting trainings and creating curriculum.

Training Facilitation: In collaboration with training program, Facilitator will be responsible for 16 hours of work per month as assigned by director. To include curriculum development and delivery of trainings for groups of 6-40 people, in English. Trainings can occur remotely via zoom and/or in person in Alameda and Solano Counties.


Training Administration: Very light admin duties; email, ensuring training sign in sheets and participant evaluations are complete.


Hours will be scheduled collaboratively and can be co-created to fit within the facilitators schedule should they have another job. [Examples of hours could be: 3rd Thursday of each month from 9-12, and Tuesday evenings from 6p-8p. Or every other Saturday from 10-12, or Tuesdays from -5- this is flexible and co-created depending on training need and facilitator schedule.]

Note that this position is not eligible for benefits.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Become a certified in MHFA trainer (paid for by A Better Way)
  • Tracking maintenance/data entry/report writing (could include monthly invoicing/report writing)
  • Scheduling of training for the MHFA program
  • Management of Continuing Education Units for courses offered
  • Develop and maintain organized systems for tracking documents and monitoring workflow
  • Communication of all training events including outreach, advertising, venue coordination, mailing list management, registration, training documentation (sign-in sheets & training evaluations)
  • Manage MHFA material inventory
  • Registration morning of training
  • Coordination with off-site venues
  • Network and attend countywide MHFA trainer provider meetings
  • Special projects and other related administrative duties

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree, clinical experience preferred but not required. Degree requirement waived for extensive training experience.
  • Experience training or teaching groups of 6 or more people.
  • Personal and or professional experience with and knowledge of Mental Health Issues
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Must be exceedingly well organized, detail oriented, accurate and timely with assigned tasks
  • Must be flexible and enjoy executing a wide range of projects through both independent and collaborative efforts
  • Ability to respond to change efficiently
  • Handle essential tasks as assigned
  • Must be able to interact skillfully with staff (at all levels) in a fast paced environment, sometimes under pressure, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient.
  • A high level of professionalism and confidentiality is crucial to this role
  • Expert level written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to travel to training sites and other places as needed
  • Intermediate level ability with MS Office: Word, Excel, Access and Outlook, Zoom, PowerPoint
  • Non-profit experience preferred
  • Good driving records

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting and in various locations, including in the community.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. Must be able to reach, bend, lift and move boxes up to 15 pounds.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-time position. 16 hours per month will be scheduled in advance collaboratively with Training Facilitator and Director of Training. Possible days and hours of operations are Monday through Saturday, 8:30am to 9pm. Schedule subject to change with advanced notice to meet the business needs.


Travel

Local travel to various worksites is required.


Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Employees must pass a Livescan and receive TB and health clearances prior to employment. Driving records are periodically reviewed. Covid-19 vaccination is required.
