Tool Room Supervisor Job at American Trim
Summary:
Manage all aspects of tool room operations including die repair, die maintenance, tool & die maker supervision and development, tool room systems and tool room equipment in a multi-shift environment. Provide necessary planning and coordination of internal and external resources to assure all requirements are met.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assure dies are properly repaired and maintained as required to support production and that tool room resources follow priority requirements
- Provide responsive tooling and set-up support and problem solving to production departments. Coordinate with tool engineers to assure new dies are ready for production.
- Supervise, train and mentor tool & die makers including following and enforcing policies, work rules, etc. Perform evaluation of employee performance as required.
- Oversee those that have enrolled in the T&D Apprenticeship program.
- Assure tool room systems function properly and that necessary tool room equipment is available, organized and maintained.
- Assure that required internal and external tool repair/maintenance resources are available.
- Responsible for the understanding & the following of all safety and housekeeping policies/procedures including Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Equipment Safety Analysis (ESA), Areas Safety Analysis (ASA) and Housekeeping standards.
- Support manufacturing goals and production requirements by maintaining tooling in optimum conditions.
- Maintain open lines of communication and/or coordination with internal and external customers, management, and with others in Operations.
- Identify areas where efficiency may be improved, to include making recommendations to management. Attend and participate in planning meetings and identifying areas of continuous improvement.
- Communicate with employees on a regular basis with regards to safety rules and procedures, quality standards, company policies (e.g. hours of work, tardiness, evaluation systems, safety contact cards, vacations, etc.) and work/job assignments.
- Perform routine safety audit of area(s) supervised; have unsafe machines, machine guards and/or safety devices, and/or tools/equipment removed from the work area immediately.
- Supervises Skilled Trades employees across a three shift operation. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Experience
Required- 7 - 10 years: Experience in all phases of tool and die work, or equivalent combination of education and direct experience.
- 5 year(s): Tool room supervisory experience
Education
Required- Journeyperson or better in Tool and Die Maker or related field
