Job Title: Therapeutic Recreation Assistant

Job Summary

Provides group and one-to-one therapeutic recreation to all residents including those with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia-related disorders.


Essential Job Functions

  • Facilitates the therapeutic recreation programs by assisting residents during group activities, following the activity schedule, and providing assistance with transportation for residents during recreation activities
  • Maintains documentation in a neat and legible manner and meets established department deadlines for recording documentation
  • Deals appropriately with the special needs of residents and their families
  • Plans, organizes, and assists residents in field trips on a monthly basis

Job Requirements

Education

  • High School Diploma; Associate’s Degree preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of one year experience presenting activities to geriatric population desirable

Licenses/Certifications
  • CPR Certification preferred

Abilities Required

  • Friendly, outgoing, positive personality;
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of the work group, residents, families, and volunteers;
  • Sensitivity to the needs of the elderly
  • Computer knowledge preferred
  • Knowledge of documentation desirable
