Position Summary
As a member of the Enrollment Management Division, the Orientation Program Assistant is responsible for assisting with planning and implementing orientation programs for incoming Portland State undergraduates. These programs are designed to welcome and successfully transition incoming undergraduate students to Portland State University. The programs also serve to engage with parents and family members of students so they can successfully support them through this transition.
The position will work closely with the New Student Programs Coordinator, the Associate Director of New Student Programs, and other campus stakeholders to develop communications, events, and engagement activities that help yield admitted students and help the university meet its enrollment goals.
The Program Assistant will communicate frequently with campus partners to provide information on orientation logistics and answer questions around programming. The Program Assistant will also have the opportunity to work with the undergraduate Orientation Leader team and offer support in their leadership development.
This is a part time (.49 FTE position) with a 1 year expected duration.
The Orientation Program Assistant will:
- Manage the Orientation inbox and provide professional and clear communication to incoming students and their family members
- Support the New Student Programs Coordinator with logistical tasks for in-person events, including reserving rooms, scheduling stakeholder participants/panelists, ordering catering, program development, and staffing
- Facilitate weekly support events to assist students in their transition to PSU, including registration labs and help desks, both virtually and in-person
- Assist with the recruitment, hiring, and training of the Orientation Leader student staff team
- If bilingual in Spanish – assist with the coordination of Spanish family programs
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to utilize and operate variety of computer programs and systems
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to explain complex process to individuals or groups
- 2 years experience working in office setting
- Experience with data entry, creating documentation, managing emails
- Must work in person

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement
The starting hourly rate for this position will be between $17.50 and $19.00 but may be negotiated above this rate dependent upon the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR. This position is not eligible for benefits.
