As a Telecommunications Specialist, you will use your experience and expertise to support the daily operational control of our sophisticated voice and data telecommunications LAN/WAN system. As always, safety is the highest priority!

South IT Operations
A Day in the Life:
This role will provide reliable and efficient telecommunications and network services to the offices and field sites located across Central Alabama, Eastern Mississippi and Western Georgia. Daily travel to various work sites is required and you will be provided with a company vehicle. This is a superb opportunity for someone loves to travel the country side, collaborate with others and get things done. This development will be acquired through:
  • Maintenance and repair of all company owned and leased communications facilities including towers, buildings, and all associated equipment
  • Tower climbing is performed by contractors but the responsible Williams tech will ensure safe work practices are followed and quality results are achieved
  • Communicating on a regular basis with Telecom and Network Engineering team regarding network projects, upgrades, and outages
  • Responsibility for installing, testing, and maintaining all telecom and network equipment located within assigned area of responsibility
  • Occasionally work outside assigned area to assist other techs, help with projects, and to provide support as needs arise
Responsibilities/Expectations:
  • Provides technical services to daily operational control of a large complex voice, data telecommunications and LAN/WAN system with technical services
  • Installs, troubleshoots, tests and maintains all telecom/network equipment and on-site DC power systems including batteries (12V, 24V, 48V), rectifiers, generators, fuse panels, solar panels and grounding
  • Coordinates with SCADA, Gas Control, Network Services, local operations and company partners
  • Collaborates with Telecommunications Engineers/Specialists to assure the reliable operations of the Company's Telecommunications assets
  • Demonstrates technical expertise in specialties, geographic areas or operational functions
  • Applies specialized knowledge to complete projects and/or work assignments
  • Other duties as assigned
Education/Years of Experience:
  • Required: High School Diploma/GED, technical/trade school certification or military electronics training and minimum eight (8) years' experience in telecommunications, operations or maintenance
  • Preferred: Associate's or two-year technical school degree in electronics or military electronics training and valid FCC license, telecommunications certificate or license
Other Requirements:
  • Must possess valid State Driver’s License and clean driving record
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational/interpersonal skills and safety as the utmost priority
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and PC skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Thrives in a team environment and can build partnerships with others
  • Willing to wear company provided personal protective equipment in designated areas (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel toed boots, arc flash protective clothing)
  • Ability and willingness to take initiative, work independently and quickly resolve issues
  • Must be able to develop work schedules, possess excellent interpersonal skills and work with little or no supervision
  • Knowledge of communications services (TCP/IP, Ethernet, Fiber Optics, T1, Wireless)
  • Preferred: Solid understanding of Cisco routers, switches, and access points
  • Preferred: Network certifications
  • Preferred: Experience in Pipeline Operations, Utilities or similar industry
Physical and Environment Work Requirements:
Must be willing to:
  • Work in extreme temperatures, with loud noises and in enclosed spaces
  • Carry or lift items up to 50 lbs and team lift loads of more than 50 lbs as needed
  • Stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, and squat, often for long periods of time
  • Work at elevated levels, potentially from man lifts, ladders, scaffolding, and/or small towers, with appropriate PPE (Personal Protection Equipment)
Shift/Work Hours/Travel Requirements:
  • Must be available for 24-hour call-out and to work after hours, nights, weekend shifts and holidays as the need arises
  • Must be willing to travel daily using company provided vehicle; overnight travel will occasionally be necessary
  • Currently resides or is willing to relocate within 30 miles of assigned location
