Team Lead, Optical Coating Job at Danbury Mission Technologies
Position Overview:
As part of our Danbury Operations team, the Team Lead, Optical Coating will have an exciting opportunity to directly contribute to the development of optical solutions for national security programs. The Lead will have the opportunity to work on complex problems, supporting a team dedicated to producing critical optical components with quality, while mentoring and working hands-on within a growing and evolving aerospace manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and area ownership within the Coating Department with specific responsibilities to include:
- Support technicians in daily tasks, ensuring optimization of resources, schedule and productivity
- Provide ownership of Coating Labs in regards to compliance, EH&S, customer property and clean-room best practices.
- Work with Coating Engineering group for chamber operations and provide guidance for improvements in chamber setup, work flow, etc.
- Coordinate work schedules for technicians and chambers. Resolve conflicts and issues for all personnel and equipment resources.
- Interface with relevant departments (Quality, Fabrication, Assembly) and program/customer stakeholders as needed.
- Complete technical projects to agreed upon metrics of performance and schedule.
Education Requirements:
- HS Diploma / GED or equivalent experience

- A minimum of 5 years of relevant Optical Coating experience with at least 2 years of experience demonstrating leadership skills and capability.
- Hands on proficiency in all aspects of Coating Technologies EB, IAD, IBD, PVD, Vacuum Coating chamber operation and maintenance, process instrumentation operation & recipe programming, process troubleshooting, development, implementation.
- Good mechanical aptitude for coating related tools, fixturing, etc.
- Cleaning & handling of high value optics, including loading/unload and coating operations
- Operational experience using spectrophotometer, microscopy, other general lab instruments
- Basic computer skills, MS Office
- Familiar in SPC, RRCA, Lean initiatives
EHS/Environmental Requirements:
- Adhere to all EH&S and proper protective equipment as required (PPE).
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time while cleaning optics.
- May work with or near hazardous substances
- Position requires bending, stretching, ladder climbing and ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
