The Teacher Assistant will provide support to the Teacher in the classroom ensuring a safe and stimulating educational environment. The will assist the Teacher in preparing lesson plans and curricula in assigned areas. The ideal candidate will assist youth in acculturation to this country, begin to learn English and continue their education at their appropriate educational level of competency.

Essential Duties for the Teacher Assistant:

• Assist in the implementation of curriculum according to developmental needs, academic and literacy level in their native language and acquisition of English.
• Assist the Teacher in the administration of the educational assessment.
• Carefully monitor and document daily attendance in the classroom.
• Carefully monitor the students using electronic devices.
• Review material taught in class with individual students with learning challenges or work with small groups of students for remedial teaching or to reinforce the learning process.
• Facilitate educational activities in the community as well as hands-on projects, that will enhance the classroom curriculum.
• Maintain individualized educational case files and enter relevant information into electronic record keeping systems in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Maintain inventory of all educational supplies and ensure that the education program is fully equipped to meet the needs of the youth.
• Help students adjust, learn, and socialize
• Assist the teacher with classroom management and crisis situations
• Effectively build relationships with other team members in order to assist with information sharing and service provision.
• Attend staff meetings and in-service training courses as required.

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (e.g., education, behavioral science, human services, or social services).
• An associate degree may be considered depending on years of in a classroom setting.

Knowledge:

• Knowledge of the theories, principles and practices for educating youth who are non-native speakers of English.
• Must be bilingual in Spanish and English.
• Effective interpersonal skills, including advocacy and conflict mediation skills, and the ability to effectively handle crisis situations.

Experience:

• Minimum of 1-year relevant experience
