    SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a committed Special Educator who is passionate about helping students achieve their full academic and social potential.

This educator’s primary responsibility is running a self-contained special education classroom where students learn best by doing. These students have lower intellectual abilities, autism, and other learning issues that can make school much more challenging for them than their peers.

The Functional Academics teacher is uniquely situated to provide highly individualized academic instruction, and support students' growth and development toward inclusion in mainstream classrooms with their peers. The ideal candidate will be prepared to take the reins of a functioning program and continue to find innovative ways to meet the needs of Lincoln students.

Eligibility for Special Education Certification 282 required. Candidates will provide specially designed instruction to students on Individual Education Plans and will consult with general education teachers on a regular basis regarding students' educational needs, accommodations and modifications. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in special education who have a demonstrated ability to conduct IEP meetings; perform annual and triennial academic evaluations and prepare special education documentation including the written notice, IEP, present level of educational performance and measurable goals and objectives. Applicants should also be able to develop and implement Positive Behavioral Support Plans. The ability to relate positively to students, parents and staff is essential in this position.

    Minimum education, training and experience*:

    • Maine State fingerprint (CHRC) authorization. Website: http://www.maine.gov/doe/cert/fingerprinting/index.html
    • Eligible for Maine State Teacher - Disabled Students 282 (7-12) certificate. Website: http://www.maine.gov/doe/cert/initial/application/index.html

    Preferred qualifications:

    • A valid license issued by the Maine State Department of Education

    • NOTE: While a valid license issued by the Maine Department of Education is preferred, recent graduates of masters programs and individuals seeking licensure are encouraged to apply if they meet minimum qualifications.
