What Will You Do
Supervise the preparation of motor fuel tax, sales tax, and environmental tax filings and payments related to the business operations. Maintain control systems to insure that all filings and payments are accurate, timely, and reflect the proper amounts payable to the taxing authority.
- Analyze and determine proper tax configuration of SAP and external tax software products and maintain profiles and scenarios that drive tax billing calculations for all products and troubleshoot errors.
- Builds knowledge of SAP and external tax software functionality and data to identify the causes of problems, and evaluate related tax and accounting results. Investigates and updates changes to configuration, master data, profiles, and scenarios to reflect business and tax law changes. Supports testing of system or process changes to ensure effective implementation.
- Reviews tax department return preparation and reconciliation processes to optimize performance, making recommendations for and supporting process reengineering efforts, including the utilization of data analytics tools. Suggests and implements needed updates or modifications to electronic filing and control systems.
- Provides guidance to product areas to ensure correct billing and recording of taxes. Directs the reconciliation of all financial accounts for all motor fuel, environmental, and sales taxes.
What Skills are Required
Normally requires a college degree in accounting, finance, or business administration, or equivalent experience and at least 2-4 years of related experience.
Understanding of tax regulations for motor fuel, environmental, and sales taxes and having the ability to apply tax knowledge to the transactions to determine appropriate taxability.
Proven computer skills including spreadsheet, database, data analytics, and query tools, the ability to understand the capabilities of third-party accounting and information systems, and the ability to use the computer to enhance business processes, facilitate analysis, and foster effective business decisions.
