DC Bilingual is recruiting a Special Education (SPED) Teacher to provide academic services to our students with special needs for the 2023-2024 SY. All Special Education Teachers are expected to work jointly with the General Education Teachers.


DC Bilingual is seeking a motivated teacher who supports our mission of student learning in Spanish and English, developing leadership, and valuing all cultures. The ideal candidate has special interest and experience in early childhood education, and is bilingual, though English and Spanish-only candidates will be considered. Currently all PK-K classrooms are co-taught with a General Education and Special Education teacher. DC Bilingual is seeking a special education teacher to form part of the “Learning Lab,” a resource classroom.


All staff are expected to work collaboratively within our professional learning community (PLC).


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Form part of the “Learning Lab” special education teaching team, who provide specialized instruction to students with special needs across settings, including intervention, pull-out, push-in, and self contained environments, in collaboration with co-taught inclusion classroom teachers.
  • Provide rigorous specialized instruction to students, particularly students in PK-K, by creating a safe, nurturing, and intellectually challenging learning environment and by applying the DCB content curriculum, school wide instructional strategies, non-negotiables and best practices.
  • Develop and implement student Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and progress reports for the grade level being taught
  • Formally and informally assess student progress using standards, and formative, summative, and if necessary alternative assessments. Analyze the data daily, weekly and quarterly using school-wide data trackers to drive instructional decisions
  • Complete individual student progress reports and conduct individual parent-teacher conferences on a quarterly basis and additionally as needed
  • Utilize Special Education Data System (SEDS) regarding student files; work with SPED Manager to create IEPs, maintain special education records and timelines for students
  • Participate in MDT meetings
  • Pilot a universal screener for incoming PK-K students
  • Complete Child Outcome Summary (COS) entry and exit data for all special education students
  • Collaborate closely with the Special Education Manager, Special Education Coach & Coordinator, and ECE Coach & Coordinator
  • Assist in the implementation of the inclusion/resource model embedded within our Two Way Immersion Bilingual program
  • Work with general education students who need to receive small group instruction from Special Education Teachers as well as Response to Intervention strategies
  • Provide behavior support as needed, including implementation of behavior intervention plans (BIP)
  • Participate in ongoing professional development, including various modalities of coaching; receive and provide critical feedback and implement all learning in the classroom; participate in grade-level team meetings and student-focused meetings
  • Promote family engagement by developing a partnership with caretakers through ongoing positive communication, home visits, and other activities that encourage active participation in student learning
  • Adhere to the No Nonsense Nurture expectations for managing student relations and behaviors
  • Attend school wide Justice, Equity and Inclusion trainings and affinity group meetings
  • Meet all expectations as outlined by the DC Bilingual Leading and Learning Framework
  • Abide by the DC Bilingual 7 Agreements
  • Demonstrate dedication to the Professional Learning Community (PLC) by supporting school-wide initiatives and programs
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or equivalent;
  • DC Praxis Passing Score in Special Education;
  • Experience and knowledge of Early Childhood Education;
  • Two or more years of experience (preferably in an urban setting);
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish/English);
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students and families from diverse backgrounds

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS

This position has/has no supervisory responsibilities.
