ABOUT THE POSITION

The Veterans Service Office is a small division within Health and Human Services that serves and helps the veteran community get connected to various resources and benefits.

The Support Service Worker I performs a variety of onsite office support duties such as scheduling appointments, directing veterans to appropriate resources or affiliate offices, and is the first point of contact for Veterans inquiring about services. They will screen and process appropriate documents for Veterans Office staff, inform clients of community resources, and assist clients in utilizing such services. They will update and maintain electronic documents for upload into the VetPro database and generally keep the office running smoothly. Assignments require the use of initiative and independent judgment with minimal oversight. This position is located at 10 North San Pedro Road, San Rafael, CA.

There is currently one (1) full-time, regular Support Service Worker I vacancy in the Health and Human Services Department, Veterans Services office.

ABOUT YOU

Our Highly Qualified Candidate:
The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize work. Strong verbal and written skills are essential. The ideal candidate will have the ability to quickly become proficient in internal systems and be able to work independently. In addition, the ideal candidate will provide excellent customer service, have experience working with the public, and knowledge of County, and other community resources related to Veteran’s needs.

We recognize your time is valuable, so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of experience in a health, social service or community organization that has included some direct client contact with a varied population, plus successful completion of six (6) semester units from a recognized college or university in health science, behavioral science, and/or social welfare. College-level education in a field as listed above may be substituted for the experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of one year. An additional six months of experience may substitute for the educational requirement.

The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancy and any future vacancies for open, fixed-term, full-time or part-time positions which may occur while the list remains active.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Candidates selected are subject to fingerprinting by the Sheriff's Department and must pass a Department of Justice LiveScan background check prior to appointment.

Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
