POSITION OVERVIEW: As a Substance Abuse Counselor, referred to as a co-occurring specialist at Bridgeway, working for Bridgeway's PACT program, you will serve people with co-occurring disorders in the community as part of a multi-disciplinary team of professionals, all working together to help adults with mental illness learn the tools to become and remain stable and healthy. PACT: Program of Assertive Community Treatment

Roles and Responsibilities of the Substance Abuse Counselor

  • Provide stage-wise substance use treatment focusing on identification of substance use effects and patterns, integrating evidence-based Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment (IDDT) model which includes use of Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Interventions, and teaching strategies
  • Conduct relapse prevention planning as well as assistance with attending recovery or self-help meetings
  • Make appropriate referrals/linkages to addiction services beyond the scope of PACT
  • Provide technical assistance and education to members of the team in substance use and co-occurring disorders. Develops substance use and co-occurring disorders materials and strategies for individual and group interventions, in conjunction with the team


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in behavioral health field
  • CADC/LCADC required in accordance with the Alcohol and Drug Licensing and Certification Act, N.J.S.A. 45:2D-a et seq.
