Student Success Advisor Job at Capital University
Under the supervision of the Director of Student Success and Associate Provost of Learning, the Student Success Advisor is an integral member of the Student Success team in the Division of Student Learning and Development. They advance the university's mission and promote learning, development, persistence, and graduation by holistically enhancing students' experiences and addressing barriers to their success. The advisor works closely with students and a broad range of faculty, staff, and community partners to provide personalized advisement, support, coaching, and intervention for both academic and non-academic concerns. The position offers some hybrid work flexibility (1-2 days per week remote work).
Responsibilities:
- Guided by a case management approach, advise students on course selection, registration, degree planning, major and minor decisions, university policies and procedures, and campus resources and opportunities. Meet one-on-one with students each semester for mandatory registration meetings and supplemental success meetings. Connect students with faculty mentors for exploration of majors, careers, graduate study, and high-impact learning experiences.
- As part of the Student Success team, initiate and develop close relationships with students through a personalized, proactive, wrap-around approach. Facilitate the triage and referral process for student concerns. Work closely with other university areas to help students overcome barriers to success. Foster an environment that enhances students' learning, develops students' skills, and promotes students' well-being. Advise students who are considering a leave of absence or withdrawal.
- Contribute to the intentional and ongoing assessment and enhancement of services and university systems, policies, processes, and procedures to promote student success.
- Serve on committees and collaborate closely with key university areas to support learning, persistence and graduation initiatives.

Qualifications:
- Master's degree in student affairs, counseling, social work, or related field preferred; or Bachelor's degree and two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to communicate and effectively interact with people across cultures and worldviews, both individually and as part of a team, and to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
- Success managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines, establishing goals and priorities, and demonstrating personal initiative working without close supervision.
- Professional written and oral communication skills. Ability to effectively present information to a wide range of constituents. Ability to facilitate discussion groups and workshops.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
- Skilled in the Microsoft suite of products, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
