Coffman Engineers is seeking a Structural Engineer with at least five years of experience who is passionate about the structural engineering profession and looking for an environment that promotes professional growth.
The successful individual will have professional experience in providing consulting to clients in various aspects of structural engineering. Technical skills may include but are not limited to: structural design of gravity and lateral systems of wood, steel, masonry, and concrete; seismic design and analysis; healthcare design (HCAI); education design (DSA and Higher Education); retrofit design; foundation design; 3D modeling; project management; as well as construction administration.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited college or university in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Minimum five years of experience in the structural engineering/consulting profession.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with steel, concrete, wood, and masonry design and related California Building Code provisions.
- Experience delivering a construction package through all phases of design from schematic design through construction.
- Experience preparing structural drawings and structural calculation packages for submittal to an Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) in accordance with applicable design codes and standards.
- Experience responding to plan check comments and communicating with plan checkers.
- Possess project management skills for managing internal projects as well as external client needs
- Experience on jobsites performing structural observations and condition assessments.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate may contribute to the success of the structural department in a variety of ways. A successful candidate need not possess all the experience and abilities listed below.
- Master’s degree (M.S.) from accredited college or university in Civil or Structural Engineering
- California PE License
- California SE License
- Experience with new building design, including vertical, lateral and foundation systems
- Experience with seismic systems on CA projects
- DSA and/or HCAi experience
- Experience coordinating with a multi-discipline design team
- Proficiency with Bluebeam, and AutoCAD and/or Revit
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Experience with 3D modeling software (ETABS, RISA, SAFE, SAP2000)
- Experience with managing day-to-day contacts with internal and external clients utilizing experience and technology to meet expectations
- Experience attending and participating in local professional organizations
- Experience developing engineering judgements for code alternatives
- Have or be developing an “area of expertise” within structural engineering

- Must be a self-starter, persistent, and follow through in a consistent manner

- Able to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment (or demonstrate ability to develop such abilities)
- Possess strong critical thinking, organizational, and analytical abilities (or demonstrate ability to develop such abilities).
- Maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers
- Basic understanding of A/E/C industry terminology and procedures and basic marketing principles
- Strong organizational ability; detail oriented; high degree of accuracy
- Positive contributor to overall office and department goals, culture, and morale
- Excellent time management skills
- Ability to provide peer reviews of colleagues’ work product
- Ability to work with counterparts in other offices to share workload when required
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- Approximate Base Salary – $85,000 - $100,000 annually
- Paid overtime at 1.0 times hourly rate
- Competitive end of year discretionary bonus based on company/team/personal performance
- Hybrid Work Schedule (subject to change)
- 401k with maximum of 5% Contribution Matching for 9% Employee Contribution
