Position Summary


This position is responsible for critical department programs and functions with the highest levels of budget and resource allocation.

The State Patrol Major vacancy serves as the Deputy Director of the Bureau of Field Operations, reporting to the Lieutenant Colonel and Colonel. In conjunction with the Lieutenant Colonel, this position administers and manages the statewide law enforcement programs assigned to the Bureau. This includes directing the activities of the five State Patrol Region Commanders, implementing and evaluating statewide traffic enforcement programs, and coordinating with high level management both within the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and with other state and federal agencies.

Salary Information


This position is in schedule-range (81-01) with an annual salary of $99,840-$113,963, plus excellent benefits. A 2 year career executive trial period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

However, it is not anticipated that working outside of Wisconsin (or bordering cities) will be allowed because positions may at times need to report to office locations in Wisconsin on short notice.

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a current Sworn Law Enforcement Officer in the State of Wisconsin
  • Must have graduated from the Wisconsin State Patrol Academy and not serving probation for a State Patrol Trooper or Inspector position
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience supervising supervisors of law enforcement personnel

Qualified candidates will possess:

  • Experience leading law enforcement officers and personnel during significant emergencies, such as natural disasters, manmade disasters, civil disturbances, etc.
  • Experience directing, planning, developing or implementing traffic law enforcement programs, such as Speed Law Enforcement, Operating While Under the Influence of Intoxicants, Motorcycle and Aircraft Enforcement, etc.
