Overview:
In this hybrid remote position, the Staff Accountant will work with the Controller, other company personnel, and external vendors to prepare journal entries and process both accounts payable and deposits. The Staff Accountant will work with the Controller to create, implement and maintain process improvements and process documentation and will have exposure to the full cycle of Month End if desired. The Staff Accountant will also be involved in annual projects and reporting, including responses to third party audit review. After the orientation and training period, hybrid remote schedule will be implemented based on the needs of The Elizabeth Hospice.

Responsibilities:
Job Duties/Knowledge
  • Prepare invoices for processing; sorting, general ledger coding and obtain appropriate approval for payment. Also includes the timely and accurate entry of invoices, processing credit card reconciliations, preparing items for payment, and performing check runs.
  • Responsible for staying current with clinical contracts, CPT coding, Medi-Cal and Medicare rates, and AP computer software.
  • Maintain proper internal controls as documents by the agency’s internal control policies and procedures.
  • Maintains electronic vendor files for completeness, including permanent file information, such as W9 tax information and contract information.
  • Responsible for accounts payable month-end process. Preparation of accounts payable audit schedules and other information as requested by outside auditors.
  • Responsible for maintaining good working relationships with vendors, including timely research of vendor issues, and ensuring timely completion of denial letters to vendors.
  • Prepare and enter General Ledger (GL) entries as needed and GL reconciliations as assigned.
  • Responsible for accessing cancelled check files as needed via online banking website or request to banker.
  • Preparation of annual 1099 reporting based on IRS guidelines.
  • Open and sort mail in a timely manner. Preparation of bank deposits.
  • Prepares monthly journal entries in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Prepares monthly balance sheet and expense account reconciliations, which includes researching and resolving reconciling items, as well as documenting and evaluating current procedures.
  • Maintains and reconciles fixed assets schedules.
  • Posts cash receipts, including cash transfers.
  • Company credit card administrator.
  • Coordinate with Payroll to book and reconcile payroll and reimbursements.
  • Responsible for assisting Sr. Payroll Specialist with processing bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried staff using the electronic payroll system.
  • Responsible for allocating and booking complex invoices, including insurance invoices and phone bills, and mileage reimbursements.
  • Acts as accountant for the medical group, including paying bills and maintaining a separate set of records.

Work Schedule: M-F, 8:00am-5:00pm
Work Location: Escondido, CA - Hybrid remote after Orientation and Training period.
Salary Range: $55,335.57/Yr. - $75,000.00/Yr. Subject to experience and qualifications.

Qualifications:
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • 5 years of experience in an accounting role with demonstrated progressive responsibilities.
  • Healthcare and not for profit experience is preferred.
  • Current California driver's license with proof of insurance preferred.
