Essential Functions (Job Duties):
Plan, develop, write and edit game recaps, feature stories, publications, game notes, game programs and informational pieces to enhance and promote the Athletic Department and its athletic activities.
Serve as the primary media liaison for various athletic programs/sports. This includes all development of media campaigns, coordination of news outreach and maintenance of all statistical and record data.
Write and edit a variety of feature stories, publications (Warrior Within), game recaps, sports media guides and other informational pieces for release to print and electronic media publicizing WSU student-athletes, administrators and coaches. Monitor media outlets for stories and references to WSU athletics.
Responsible for the daily update of the WSU athletic website by videotaping and editing features as well as posting news releases.
Plan layout, design, prepare copy, select articles and photographs for all informational publications (Warrior Within and sport media guides). Contact vendors (printers) for quotes on printed materials and work with vendors on deadlines to ensure materials are printed in a timely manner.
Plan, develop and cover athletic activities which include press conferences, athletic contests, alumni events, letterwinners receptions, etc. and to provide information such as media kits with news releases. Also post event news release and photo gallery to the athletic website.
Supervise interns and other student assistants for sports which include the complete responsibility of the statistical crew and verifying the accuracy of statistical data and submitting such information to both the league office and the NCAA.
Serve as a liaison between print and electronic media at the local, State and national level and the University community.
Perform related work as assigned such as broadcasting post-season baseball contests on the internet; nominating student-athletes and coaches for league, district and national awards; oversee department's video webcasting initiatives to further enhance exposure of the department.
Ability to work evenings and weekends is required. Must be willing to travel to road contests and various off-campus sporting activities.

Qualifications:
Education: Bacherlor's Degree
Additional Education Information: Coursework in sport management, journalism, mass communications or public relations. Master's Degree preferred.
Experience: Specialist
Additional Experience Information: Minimum 1-2 years of related work experience either in a collegiate sports information office or a professional teams public relations office.
WRITING SKILLS - Demonstrated ability to write clearly and informatively (game recaps, feature stories, press releases, media guides, team outlooks, etc.) with knowledge of specific terms related to that particular sport. Ability to design innovative and creative media outreach to increase attendance and public awareness.
PLANNING/ORGANIZING SKILLS - Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, prioritize work assignments to meet established deadlines. Strong organizational and time-management skills.
ORAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS - Can apply effective interpersonal skills to provide information; can speak clearly in positive or negative situations. Ability to conduct interviews with coaches and student-athletes to help promote the athletic department's mission and enhance visibility. Ability to set up radio equipment and broadcast athletic contests from post-season venues.
COMPUTER TOOLS - Ability to use the programs associated with StatCrew (baseball and volleyball) as well as Golfstat along with Adobe Creative Suite programs such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, Premiere Pro and Media Encoder. Experience with Sidearm Website tools is a plus. Can use Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word. Ability to set up and connect equipment for internet broadcast of home athletic contests.
BUSINESS ACUMEN - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship between print, electronic media and the University community.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE - Must understand the specific nuances and demands of statistical reporting including specific programming and NCAA software packages.
