    Job Summary
    The Office of Equity and Community Engagement convenes programs, initiates strategies, and engages stakeholders in supporting academic and life success for all students. The specialist plays a critical role in the implementation and sustainability to the aforementioned areas. The specialist also manages complaints regarding the discrimination, harassment, and related protections of students. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS).

    Job Requirements
    The following are required:
    • A bachelor’s degree in education, social work, human services or a related field.
    • Experience with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion practices.
    • Experience working effectively with and understanding the needs of culturally and ethnically diverse populations.
    • Excellent oral and written communications skills, including cross cultural communication.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Experience developing and presenting professional workshops.
    • Works well on teams.

    The following are preferred:
    • Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating community or grass roots programs.
    • Experience in generating reports in relation to federal and state laws and municipal codes.

    Essential Job Functions
    • Advance ASD’s mission of increasing access and equity for students across all ASD schools.
    • Support and advance equity across the organization
      • Lead school-wide improvement activities with a focus on equity and access for special populations including special education, English language learners, gifted/talented, 504, and historically educationally disadvantaged groups such as minorities and free and reduced lunch.
      • Further the strategic vision for ASDs Equity Capstone and corresponding tiered supports for schools.
      • Analyze school Equity Capstone data to develop training and supports.
      • Collaborate with the Evaluation and Assessment Department to align school improvement efforts with a focus on equity.
    • Conduct confidential investigations related to discrimination and related topics.
    • Collaborate with external and internal stakeholders for the purpose of two-way communication.
    • Participate in community based events to share the work of ASD.
    • Provide technical assistance regarding equity and community engagement to schools.
    • Assume responsibilities with minimal direction and some innovation.
    • Support other office initiatives.



    Physical /Mental Demands
    The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

    Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.

    While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
